When most people think of film developing, they think of the drugstore days where you could get 1-hour developing. While the big box stores like Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart still offer film developing, they now send your film across the country to 3rd-party labs. They rarely send your negatives back, and they provide subpar scans through CDs or clunky file transfers.

For nearly the same price, The Darkroom makes it extremely simple to order online and mail in your film. We provide high-quality scans that allow you to print your memories later, and we always return your negatives. We’ve been developing film for over 50 years, we use a traditional dip-and-dunk process built on consistency and quality. With free inbound shipping, easy online ordering, and scans uploaded directly to your personal account, there’s no need to go to the big box stores anymore.

Make Your Order Online

Checkout + Get Your Shipping Set Up

At checkout, choose your return shipping. Most customers go with our flat-rate option:

$6.95 flat-rate return shipping — all rolls, one price

We cover inbound shipping. To send your film in, choose one of two easy options:

Print a prepaid shipping label and attach it to a padded envelope

Request a free film mailer — we’ll send it to you with an order form included

Pack and Send Your Film

Once your order is placed, packing up is easy:

  • Place your film + order info (printed confirmation or handwritten order number) into your envelope or film mailer
  • Make sure there’s a return address on the outside
  • Save or photograph your tracking number

Then drop it in your mailbox or at the post office — that’s it.

We Process and Upload Your Photos

Once your film arrives, we take it from there. You’ll get:

  • An email notification when your order enters production
  • Your scans uploaded within about 2–4 days

When your photos are ready, view them on thedarkroom.com or in the Darkroom mobile app. Download, share, edit, and order prints anytime.

Get Your Film Back

Once everything is complete, we ship your order back to you. You’ll receive:

  • An email notification when your order ships
  • Your negatives
  • A scan index print
  • A new order form and film mailer for next time
  • Prints if you ordered them
