Blank rolls are no fun, but we’re here to help.
Blank roll? It happens. Take a look at the suggestions below to track down what went wrong.
Some common causes of blank rolls include:
- Expired or damaged film
- Underexposure (especially in low light without flash)
- Film loading issues
- Camera malfunctions (sticky shutter, flash sync problem, or film advance issue)
- Severe light leaks
- Shooting with a single-use camera in low light without firing the flash
Single-use cameras are the most common culprits, as many people don’t realize how crucial the flash is in indoor or low-light settings. If the flash doesn’t fire, the photos may be too underexposed for our scanners to pick anything up from the negatives.
If your roll was submitted for develop & scan or develop, scan & print, and it comes back blank, we’ll issue a voucher for future processing (valid for one year). This voucher will be included with your returned negatives. Please note: vouchers are not issued for develop-only orders or for sheet film, and lost vouchers cannot be replaced.
