SFX is often overshadowed by @ilfordphoto’s extensive B&W lineup. It shouldn’t be though – SFX is a great B&W white film that has a high sensitivity to red which in the right settings can mimic infrared. These were shot at box speed with no filters. It’s a relatively sharp film with great tones and incredible contrast – just look at those rich blacks.

Great normal film, avoid near Infrared

The grain is fairly normal for a mid ISO B/W film, but the moment you try to use it as an IR film (or as close as it will allow), the grain shoots through the roof. Just not for my tastes. If you want IR, go for the Rollei IR400

I love this film. It’s drama is unsurpassed. Used with the right filters it cannot be beat. I have mine developed as positives and can’t help but stare at the results. Don’t expect anything approaching infrared photography, just expect really nice black and white.
