Psychedelic Blue No. 5 Single Use Disposable Camera

The Psychedelic Blue No. 5 Single Use Disposable Camera is a Fuji-style disposable camera loaded with a special effect Kodak 400 ISO color-negative film that has been fogged by hand. While the camera itself functions like a standard disposable – with a fixed exposure for daylight, a fixed-focus plastic lens, and a built-in flash – what makes this camera stand out is the film inside. This is not a traditional color palette like you’d find in a Kodak FunSaver or Fuji QuickSnap. Instead, Psychedelic Blue No. 5 is designed to deliver a moodier, more stylized look that feels intentionally experimental.

The visual effect is most noticeable along the edges of the frame, where color blooms and fades inward toward the center, creating a natural vignette or “framed” look. Throughout the roll, you may also see vertical streaks of light, soft flares, and areas that resemble a galaxy-like texture. Importantly, most of the light effects stay away from the center of the frame, helping preserve color and exposure where your subject typically sits. The result is a roll that feels unpredictable, expressive, and very different from standard disposable camera results. This film won’t be for everyone, but if you enjoy light leaks, edge effects, and images with a bit more character, it can be a really fun one to try.

Like most disposable cameras, Psychedelic Blue No. 5 has a fixed focus and performs best when subjects are kept within approximately 4-9 feet, which is also the effective range of the flash. The camera includes a built-in flash, making it usable in lower light, but the special-effect nature of the film means results can vary depending on lighting, subject matter, and composition. This is very much a camera meant for experimentation rather than consistency.

Tip: Treat this camera like a creative tool rather than a “document everything perfectly” option. Strong light, simple compositions, and subjects placed near the center of the frame tend to work best, allowing the edge effects to enhance the image rather than overpower it.

The Psychedelic Blue No. 5 Single Use Camera includes 27 exposures, uses ISO 400 color negative film, and is processed using C-41. The film inside is fogged by hand, which means no two rolls will look exactly the same – part of the appeal for photographers looking to break out of the standard disposable look.

Why We Recommend It:
Here at The Darkroom, we develop, scan, and print a huge number of disposable cameras every day, and special-effect disposables like Psychedelic Blue No. 5 offer a refreshing change of pace. This camera is ideal if you’re looking for something moodier, more expressive, or simply different from the usual disposable aesthetic. It’s not meant to replace a standard disposable for everyday shooting, but if you want a creative twist, unexpected results, and a roll that feels more like an experiment than a snapshot tool, Psychedelic Blue No. 5 is a fun and distinctive option.
