Psychedelic Blue No. 2 Single Use Disposable Camera

The Psychedelic Blue No. 2 Single Use Disposable Camera is a Fuji-style disposable camera loaded with a special-effect Kodak 400 ISO color negative film that is fogged entirely by hand using multiple light sources. Unlike later versions in the Psychedelic Blue series, No. 2 follows a more structured fogging approach, producing a consistent directional color fade rather than scattered or evolving light effects.

In Psychedelic Blue No. 2, a red-to-orange fade enters from the top of the frame, while a green fade rises from the bottom. Because the fogging is done by hand, the intensity and balance of these colors can vary slightly from roll to roll, but the overall look remains fairly consistent. The result is a bold, high-impact color overlay that is immediately noticeable and often becomes the dominant visual element in the frame.

Compared to Psychedelic Blue No. 3 and No. 5, the flare and color fogging in No. 2 is larger and more centralized. In many frames, the color fade can take up a significant portion of the image, sometimes pulling attention away from the subject rather than complementing it. This gives the film a very strong, unmistakable character – but also makes it more limiting depending on how and what you like to photograph.

Like most disposable cameras, Psychedelic Blue No. 2 has a fixed focus and performs best when subjects are kept within approximately 4–9 feet, which also aligns with the effective range of the built-in flash. The camera can be used in lower light with flash, but because the fogging is already visually dominant, results can feel especially intense in high-contrast or brightly lit scenes.

Tip: If you’re shooting Psychedelic Blue No. 2, keep compositions simple and be mindful of subject placement. Centered subjects with clean backgrounds tend to work best, allowing the color fades to frame the image rather than overwhelm it.

The Psychedelic Blue No. 2 Single Use Camera includes 27 exposures, uses ISO 400 color negative film, and is processed using standard C-41 chemistry. As with all hand-fogged films, some variation between rolls is expected, but No. 2 is more consistent in its look than later versions in the series.

Why We Recommend It (With Caveats)

Here at The Darkroom, we’ve developed and scanned a wide range of Psychedelic Blue disposable cameras, and Psychedelic Blue No. 2 is the most divisive of the series. Of the Psychedelic Blue single-use cameras released so far, this one is personally our least favorite. The flare tends to be larger and more distracting than we prefer, and it can sometimes overpower the subject rather than enhance it.

That said, this is exactly why Psychedelic Blue No. 2 might be the right choice for you. If you enjoy bold, graphic color overlays, heavy flares, and images where the effect is front and center, No. 2 delivers a strong and unmistakable look. It’s not subtle, it’s not restrained – but for photographers who want the effect to fully take over the frame, that can be part of the appeal.
