The Kodak FunSaver is one of the most versatile single use disposable cameras on the market thanks to its 800 ISO color negative film giving it an extra stop of flexibility over the standard 400 ISO disposables. That higher ISO makes it noticeably better in low light or indoor situations, while still holding up well in bright sunlight. Like all single use cameras, it has a fixed exposure set for sunny conditions, so in anything less than bright, direct light, you’ll want to use the flash. Simply hold the flash-charge button until the red indicator light on top glows – if the light isn’t on, the flash isn’t ready.

In our experience, the FunSaver consistently delivers the best overall image quality among disposable cameras, especially in terms of sharpness. Despite its plastic lens and high-speed film, it can produce surprisingly crisp images with relatively fine grain when used in good light.

Tip: Like all disposable cameras, the FunSaver also has a fixed focus. Its focus range typically stretches from about 4 feet to infinity, with the sweet spot falling between 4–10 feet. For the sharpest results – and to ensure the flash properly illuminates your subject – try to keep anything you’re photographing within that distance range.

The FunSaver includes 27 exposures and is widely available at drugstores, but we recommend picking it up from FilmPhotographyStore.com for the best pricing and reliability.

When & why we recommend a single use camera:
Here at The Darkroom, we develop, scan, and print a huge number of disposable cameras every year – and we recycle every single one. While disposables aren’t known for top-tier image quality, they absolutely have their place. They’re perfect for moments when you don’t want to overthink your shooting, great for parties, ideal for kids learning film, and especially useful in situations where your main camera could get damaged: climbing, backpacking, beach trips, traveling, or vacations. If something happens to a disposable, you’re not losing your expensive gear – and that peace of mind makes them worth having on hand.
