Candido 200 is a C-41 color negative film and a 200 ISO emulsion that brings a unique, stylized look to the 200 speed category. As a tungsten-balanced film, it leans cooler with subtle blue tones, especially in daylight. We’ve been seeing more of it come through the lab at The Darkroom, where we develop, scan, and print it regularly, and it’s proven to be a distinct alternative to more traditional 200 speed films.
Compared to films like Kodak Gold 200 or Kodak ColorPlus 200, Candido 200 offers a cooler, more refined look with vibrant color and stronger contrast. Its rendering shifts depending on lighting – cooler tones are more pronounced in bright daylight, while warmer indoor or golden hour light helps balance colors for a more natural feel. It handles scenes like sunsets, sunrises, and coastal landscapes particularly well.
Exposure latitude is in the medium range, so it benefits from careful metering, especially in mixed lighting. Grain is relatively fine for a 200 speed film, with good sharpness and detail while still maintaining a natural film texture.
Here at The Darkroom, Candido 200 has been a refreshing option with a look that stands apart – cooler tones, added contrast, and a bit more character than typical 200 speed films. If you’re looking for something different with fine grain, strong detail, and a unique color profile, Candido 200 is definitely worth trying and it can be purchased at Freestyle Photo.
