Kentmere Pan 200 – Balanced, Affordable, and Full of Character

Kentmere Pan 200 is a welcome addition to the Kentmere line, striking the perfect balance between the fine grain of Kentmere 100 and the flexibility of Kentmere 400. Made by Harman Technology – the same company behind Ilford – this medium-speed ISO 200 black and white film delivers strong contrast, sharp detail, and smooth tonal range straight out of the box, without needing to push.

It’s our favorite in the Kentmere lineup, offering better contrast than 400, finer grain than 100, and more overall versatility than either. This film also produces what we like to call “bloomy highlights,” a look created by slightly higher halation that adds a soft, glowing character to out-of-focus light sources – especially flattering in certain lighting conditions.

Being one of the more affordable films made by Harman, Kentmere Pan 200 is a great budget-friendly choice that doesn’t feel like a compromise. With its distinct tonality and versatility, it’s become one of the fastest-growing black-and-white films we develop here at The Darkroom Lab, where we process hundreds of rolls each week in both 35mm and 120.
