Amazing Photos with Cheap Cameras

Cheap Canon EOS Cameras hero

It’s not all about the gear or how much it costs

There is a lot of expensive, top-of-the-line gear out there. You know all about it because it’s pretty much the only gear you see posted about on film accounts. Leica, Hasselblad, Contax, even point-n-shoots are getting pricey these days. But we’re here to tell you, it’s not all about the gear or how much it costs.

For example, more than half of the content posted on our social media is taken with a Canon EOS film body that costs less than $100. We often shoot with a Canon Rebel that costs roughly $15 paired with either a Canon 50mm f/1.8 or 40mm f/2.8–both of which cost around $100.

This camera looks cheap and is cheap BUT it doesn’t mean it’s incapable of amazing results.

I often find that I not only enjoy the experience of shooting with a Canon Rebel over a Leica, but I also like the results better. And not only that–for less than $150 you get a 2000th max shutter, a smart matrix meter, multiple exposure mode, a variety of other modes, exposure compensation, a flash, and so much more. Yes, cameras like these aren’t nearly as durable and may feel cheap, but that’s the beauty of them.

What is a good film camera for beginners?

You don’t have to worry about the possibility of breaking it because it’s easily replaced. That makes these great everyday cameras for travel, adventure, hiking, rainy days, etc. One downside is that they’re not mechanical like a Canon F-1, Nikon FM2, Leica m6, etc. But the Canon Rebel batteries are tiny and last forever, so all you need to do is keep a pair of batteries in your bag in case you need them!

Photos taken with the Canon Rebel

Trev reviews a camera you probably don’t hear much about or see frequently, other than maybe on our own Instagram. It’s not a Leica; it’s not a Nikon FM2, Nikon F3, Pentax 67, Hasselblad, or one of the expensive point shoots that you can get these days. It is a camera that has pretty much created about 50 percent of the content that you’ve seen on our The Darkroom website. It’s typically not a camera that’s on anyone’s top 10 list.

You’ve seen the Canon Rebel, likely because you’ve heard of the digital ones. Before digital, Canon made Rebels for film photography. There are many different models, but first, how I came to start shooting with this camera is five years ago, I got a Canon Elan 7, my first autofocus film camera. I got this camera just because I found a good price on it and it fit my hand well and I just all the functions work for me.

Naturally, I wanted to upgrade to the Canon EOS-1V, because it’s considered the holy grail of EOS Canon cameras. Still, I couldn’t afford that, so I went with the next best thing, the Canon EOS 3. The EOS 3 specifications are technically better, it’s a little more rugged and shoots at 8,000 of a second and shoots six frames a second, which is really fast. However, I found myself picking up the Canon Elan 7 because it’s smaller, has a convenient pop-up flash, and it is significantly quieter.  The Canon EOS 3 shutter sounds like a Samurai sword, drawing a lot more attention.

My wife wanted to start shooting film and got a Canon Rebel with a white 40mm pancake lens, looking goofy I didn’t give it much thought, but then saw her photos. They were as good as my Canon Elan 7 and EOS 3, just as sharp, and the metering was good [More on metering].  I decided to get one for myself, one with a black 2.8 40mm pancake lens. I found that I could take the 40mm lens and put it on the  EOS 3 and get the same/similar image with my Rebel.

When it comes to film cameras, it’s about the quality of the film, the lens, and exposure, the camera body just holds everything together. If you know how to use your camera, the in-camera meter, and your camera works well, you’ll get very good photos regardless of how expensive the camera.  Over the years I’ve preferred the Rebel over the Elon 7, mostly because it just works for me.

It may be considered controversial, but there’s a lot of hype around expensive high-end point-and-shoot cameras like the Nikon 35Ti, Nikon 28Ti, Minolta TC1, Contax T1, Contax T2, Olympus Stylus Epic, but the Canon Rebel generates photos better than all of them. While the Rebel is bigger, you can change out the lens for your desired focal length, you’ll get faster autofocus, manual focus, shutter priority, pop-up flash, and many other features. You also be able to create double exposures.

You can find the Canon Rebel for $50 or cheaper, but I recommend you buy from a place that will test them.  Below are some of our favorite photos taken with the Canon Rebel.

Do you have a cheap camera that you would recommend? Let us and our readers know in the comments.

THANK YOU for saying this! Your video and post made me very interested in purchasing and the Canon Rebel – that and I already have 3 lenses for my Canon DSLR so it would be easy to start to use. I currently have a Minolta Maxxum 5 that I absolutely adore taking pictures with. Everything comes out so clear and crisp, but I don’t see anyone talking up this camera. And the best thing is I can get good lenses at a reasonable price for it. I also have a Pentax Spotmatic, but lenses for those cost considerably more, and even though it’s a great camera, I’m hesitant to take it out because I’m afraid of something happening to it!

Recently discovered this little secret a few years ago but have since then upgraded to the beautifully built Canon EOS-1 w/ 8000th shutter speed, film leader leave out, giant bright viewfinder and better ergos. Still under $200. Glued the 40mm 2.8 on it and take it everywhere.

I really want to win one of these to carry around as my everyday / travel camera!! Love all the photos that have been created with them.

*This is my giveaway entry*
I am relatively new to the world of film photography, and am very excited to be learning more & more about the art every day! I hope to use this camera to help me learn to take better photos, as well as the technicalities behind film photography as opposed to digital. Thank you!

I’d love to win one of these cameras to give to my brother. I gifted him an Olympus mju i at Christmas to get him hooked on film photography and it worked! I know he’s looking to upgrade to something with some more control to start pushing his limits and this would be great!

Making great images with cheap cameras is why I almost exclusively work with Goodwill cameras. I love finding something that someone else left behind and giving it new life by my side on the street. When my friends who are more traditional photographers ask what I shoot with, I always grin when I see their face after I tell them it’s just a point and shoot. That’s why I’d like to try one of the rebels—to step my game up but keep the same principles I use when I take pictures of people here in North Carolina.

Hi!
I have been canon shooter since I started shooting film! I have the Canon a-1 and love it. I would definitely love to have one of the rebel cameras to use and see what it was really like to have a SLR rebel series before they became DSLRs!

I would love to win one of these cameras!! These cameras are perfect to have as an everyday camera that would come with me everywhere. I appreciate how these camera although are on the cheaper side still can take such beautiful photos.

I want to win one of these cameras because having recently moved from California to Connecticut, all I’m looking forward to is the peak foliage season and the photos I’ll be able to take during it. I can’t wait to see all of the vibrant colors as the season fully changes. Finally there will be some kind of beautiful normalcy in all of the chaos that is this year.

Hi! I think winning one of these will give me the opportunity to learn more and really capture some good stuff. I’ve always been into cameras and photography growing up and always wanted to get serious about it. If I wanna go into a field in photography I need to learn more about different cameras and all the other factors that play into taking a good photo and really test myself as a photographer and show what I know and what I can do!! Who knows maybe one of these cameras will be my go-to I use for my future career haha. Thank you for the opportunity! Good luck to everyone 🤞🏻

Currently I’m a sophomore in college and I’m majoring in digital arts, focusing in photography! I very recently started using film because I feel I really love the process and the concentration of making each photograph! I think it’s a great experience and way for expanding my knowledge on photography! I love capturing memories and I feel film really highlights that live! My goal is to eventually work for big publication and publish my own work! I’d absolutely love to add a new camera to my canon AE-1!

Using a Minolta Maxxum 400 right now, I totally understand this philosophy. My camera, though not a cult classic, works flawlessly and has incredible specs for the price, and all the money I saved goes into trying new films! Only downside is the price of Minolta-A/Sony-A lenses, a Canon of the same era would open the door to more experimentation with different lenses!

These look like an excellent combo! A cheap body and sharp 40mm lens would make an excellent travel companion for my outdoor adventures around California and Great Basin areas!

I started photography on a canon t5i and that was amazing to me. Eventually got a 50mm 1.8 and moved towards more portrait photography. Recently I picked up a Pentax K1000 and have been shooting with that, failing and failing, but ultimately learning more and more. I have been trying to expand and reach an audience through photography, mainly for portraits. I would love a canon rebel so I can build my arsenal and be able to grow stronger. Thanks for your time.

I’ve only recently gotten into shooting film with my Nikon af600. I’ve been thinking about getting a film slr or rangefinder to supplement the point and shoot but don’t have the money. I’m moving to a rural spot in Maine by the water for the winter and would love to have one of these to document my time.

I would love to win one of these cameras! I want to expand on my film cameras as I only have a couple I use currently and think a Rebel would be a great addition – perfect for photographing friends and family and improving on taking portraits 🙂

Thank you for this contest! I’ve been borrowing my photography instructor’s Canon Rebel for the past six months and would love to have one of my very own. You have the most recent roll of film I shot on it, coincidentally. I can’t wait to see the images, and I hope I get lucky on Monday! 😘 – Edie

I would love to win one of these cameras because I’ve been getting into film photography this year, and have been enjoying every minute of it. I take my film camera everywhere I go! I do film to capture those precious memories with my love ones. I love the nostalgic feel and it reminds me of looking back at my childhood photos and all the great times and moments captured in that picture. Thank you!

I’ve always been scared to make an investment such as a Canon camera, so I’ve rarely experimented with that aspect of film photography, but it is something I would love to get into and with one of these cameras I could totally do it!!!

First off thank you for the giveaway. I have been into photography for years, even going to school for it. After college I completely hated photography and got rid of all my cameras. I would use the winning camera to find my passion again by teaching my three year old photography.

Have been meaning to change from a Pentax K1000, not that it’s bad, it’s awesome but would be nice to be able to compensate even 1/3 of a stop, sometimes it’s just that much you need you know. :))

I would love to win one of these Rebel film cameras because my first digital SLR was a Canon Rebel T3. It taught me so much about photography as an artform through my first 3 years in college, and I’d love to try out a film model. I would probably shoot ridiculous things like flowers and poorly composed landscapes, just to get back that old feeling of shooting just to shoot. 🙂

What a cool camera! I’d end up photographing my friends on the weekend trips we take! Like on a boat, skating, swimming, or wherever the heck we end up. Thanks for doing another giveaway! 🙂 so fun!

*This is my giveaway entry*
I would love to win one of these canon rebel cameras because I am a highschool student who was just introduced to film. I absolutely fell in love with it and would love to be able to shoot more film and get more experienced. Thank you!

I really want to win the Rebel camera to tell my story here in New York. I moved here last winter for a really cool job without knowing anyone and then covid hit. Telling my story is my way of connecting to the city and trying to find new people to share this new chapter with!

*giveaway comment*
Im a beginner with photography and ive been wanting to get an actual camera instead of just having to rely on my phone camera. I would be extremely grateful to have a chance at winning one. it would definitely help me financially and it would enable me to dive into this passion that I’ve kept to myself. Thank you!

I would love one of these to photograph my growing family. I’ve never had an autofocus film slr and I would be great for capturing my 2 year old son and 6 month old daughter.

Winning one of these cameras would be a pleasure! I own a few canon cameras and could interchange lenses with ease. I’ve been snorting film for about a year now, and I’m looking to take my photos to the next step! Winning one of these rebel cameras will be a great way to do so!

Hello there!
I have been in love with film photography for about over a year now. I love the way film captures a moment in time. I have been using my aunt’s Pentax k1000 and I really like how user friendly it is. I would love to try out the Canon Rebel because I would take it everywhere with me!
Thank you !

I would love to win this camera! I have been shooting point & shoot cameras for the past few years & would love to start learning to shoot manually! Since this camera has both its the best of both worlds & the perfect camera for me to learn on! I’m a college student & a new camera isn’t really in the budget right now & I could easily bring this with me wherever I go!

My first DSLR way back when was a Canon Rebel XTi. I’ve only recently started shooting film and have yet to shoot with any of the newer SLR models with capabilities like the Rebels in this post. Based on the shots that you’ve shared I’d agree that you can get some fantastic results with these and I’d love to see what I can do with one. Plus, I’d be able to get back to my early Canon roots a bit as well. 😉

Winning one of these rebels would be amazing. I’ve recently started shooting film because I hit a wall with digital. I would find myself not going out as often to make photos. With film it’s rekindled my love for the art, the feeling you get when you take a great composition but can’t check it at an instant, you grow impatient, counting down the moments, constantly checking your email to see if your rolls been uploaded. That excitement is what I’ve longed for. It brings me back to how excited I was when I got my first camera. At the moment I’ve got a few thrifted point and shoots and an old Canon Ae1. With this rebel I’d have an opportunity to us any of my ef lenses and try thing I hadn’t even thought of. Thank you for your consideration.

I’ve been wanting one of these since I won a contest in high school with using a canon rebel (supplied by the school) and since then I begged my parents for one. I never was able to appreciate one daily since my parents didn’t have the financial means to buy me one, years later i learned to appreciate film through my Minolta x700 and capture the rawest moments I could think of. winning this camera will not only fulfill that life long dream of having a rebel (since hey I am one) but also give me a chance to use this beauty in film version. My first capture with this would be that same high school where I first fell in love with it!

I started film photography with the cheap disposable cameras you can buy at Walmart and have always wanted to test out some other cheap, but more permanent options. I would photograph weekend backpacking trips in the Utah mountains, climbing trips in the red rock down South and everything in between!

This camera looks right up my alley! I only have used manual cameras such as the older Minolta SRs, or the most basic point-and-shoots like the Sardina. I would love to have a quick go-to camera that is more capable of shooting in the moment, rather than needing to be carefully metered.

*giveaway entry*
I want to win one of these cameras because i want to learn more about film photography. I want to persue photography as a hobby or as a side hussle who knows. I also want to win because i want to capture the natural beauty that is giftef to us everyday. And i also want to try and capture the beauty of uniqueness in people. And bring to light to people how different countries live verus others. Or simply bring to light things we should all strive to make a change (like global warming, stuff like that).

I have some canon lenses laying around and I was planning to find a cannon body for them! I also want to teach my family how to get into film photography so these cameras with the auto modes will be helpful!

I’d love to win one of these cameras cause my Nikon Fm that was passed down to me and only camera I’ve ever used has been having bad light leaks and after having it looked at by a camera tech the problem has persisted. I’ve been using a 50mm and wanting something wider so the 40mm would be super cool to try. I’d use the camera for everything but I’ve been most interested in shooting candid street stuff and portraits. thanks for the giveaway!

I would live to win one of these rebels! My Olympus MJU crapped out on me 🙁 and I’ve always wanted a 35mm SLR with autofocus.

I started a ‘hand’ series of my grandparents. Looking back on the photos that I had taken with my AE-1, I was so happy and grateful that I captured what I did before my grandpa passed. Now I’m on a mission to expand/ continue the series when I go visit my dad for his 60th birthday!

My first ever camera was a Canon Rebel XS, how I learned the ropes of framing and began to learn about manipulating aperature, shutter speed, and other manual controls but through a digital medium. I would be so excited to explore its 35mm predecessor and shoot with a rebel but with a matured photographic eye and an older camera and compare it to what i was creating at the start of my photography journey! I mainly shoot portraiture or subjects in context and I love the variety of images the canon can capture so beautifully. :):)

This is really awesome! Years ago I considered purchasing one of these right as the transition away from film was taking place. I was only a teenager at the time and didn’t quite have enough money.
I would love to win this camera because I have some Canon lenses that I need to put a camera body to, I love film photography and I have been using The Darkroom since I got back into film photography 3 years ago. Living in Utah I am primarily a landscape photographer. I’ve spent a lot of time shooting Portra 800, Portra 160, Ektar 100 and always a roll of Kodak Gold thrown into the mix for good measure.

hi!
snagging one of these babies would be great! i’ve been into film for about a year now with starting off with a canon tx, then upgrading to a canon ae-1 program! i recently went to colorado and my pictures came out amazing! i would love to have another camera option that isn’t heavy for me to carry around!

Cheap cameras are my favorite! I could really use a Rebel to put my EOS lenses to use on film and start doing some better landscape photos while hiking.

Would love to have one of these rebels to take places where I’d be worried about taking more expensive gear like on hikes, going skating, etc… the auto focus would really come in handy for those high action moments as well.

I would absolutely love to win one of these cameras! However not for myself, I have enough cameras. I would like to win this camera from my little cousin. Over the summer we had the family together and I started to teach him the basics of photography and he absolutely loved it. I helped him shoot his first roll of film and would not stop asking me to shoot another. I would love to win one of these cameras so that I could give it to him and continue to teach him photography but this time with his own camera.

I would love to win one of these for my son. He is homeschooling his tenth grade year and has taken an interest in photography. As he won’t be back in person, it would be amazing to win one for him to explore his budding interest in photography and it would give him a unique tool to work with.

I would love to win one of the Canon Rebel cameras as I would really like to deepen my skills in film photography. If I win one of these it will for sure keep on the nice work it had in your hands. Hope I get one on monday 🙂

I would love to win this camera, to give it to my sister so she can foster a love for film photography. She is interested in film photography, but as a college student has not been able to budget a camera. This would be an incredible gift for her to take everywhere with her and learn to create beautiful film shots!!!

The photos taken by the canon rebels have always been so beautiful! The detail that these cameras are able to produce can be compared to that of a good quality camera. If I were to win this camera I would do two things with it. One of them being taking a lot of nature photos. I live in Florida and in a suburban town that looks like the Everglades. I have discovered so many beautiful spots with cool wildlife to photograph that I definitely want to take advantage of! I would also use this as possibly a more everyday camera and use to to capture the everyday aspects of life. Like being with friends or to just take a quick snapshot of something that inspires me throughout the day. It allows me to make memories and look back on the good times had. 🙂

I’d really use one of these cameras as a Family/Friends camera. To take on adventures where one of my more antiquated cameras wouldn’t go on. I’d take it everywhere and try to continue the legacy of these cameras telling stories.

Photography has been a place for me to escape my reality and capture others’ lives and what surrounds them. It’s been an activity that has helped me in tough times, and that has made me grown as a person. Nowadays, I have a partner that is there for me and always supports me in my photography. She never gets tired, never gets socially awkward, and always encourages me to continue expressing myself in any way I want. I’ve seeing and interest in photography growing on her trough time; she is constantly taking my cameras and taking pictures. She has a good eye for it, and I would love to give her a camera, but money is tight. If I get this camera, I will give it to her as a token of appreciation. I know that this camera is going to be taken care of and is going to produce a lot of beautiful images in her hands. Love your Insta page, keep rocking on!

I would love the chance to win one of these cameras to use on my apiary. My family are beekeepers and I enjoy taking pictures of the honey bees and honey we collect from them! This would be a chance to step up and take brilliant photos I can share with the world.

I’d always thought that the plastic film cameras weren’t worth it, that only an old manual metal camera was needed for great photos. After shooting some rolls and learning that I’m not that good at manual focus I’ve changed my mind! I’m documenting the SF Bays wetlands through film this year. I’d love one of these to help me with my first college photography class!

I want to win one of the rebels because I need something new to explore with. My laziness is out of control due to quarantine and a new camera is just what I need to give me that extra step into capturing new beginnings. I’ve learned a lot this year, especially embracing the simple, overlooked beauty in life. Whether love or loss, i’m looking forward to start adding to the collection of frozen time. A new lens with fresh eyes can go a long way. Win or lose, I appreciate all you do. Thank you!

I would love to have one of these to shoot in downtown and seascape. There are dozen of old color and B&W films waiting in the fridge.

It would be amazing to win one of these cameras! I think it would be perfect for documenting my family and everyday life, which is my favorite subject to shoot. I love shooting film because it creates a tangible image that feels timeless, and one of these cameras would help me do that and hold onto my favorite memories for years to come!

I never had an autofocus film SLR before. I would love to see how really sharp a roll of Ektar 100 is with one these Canon Rebels!

It’s great having a newer Canon film camera in your bag that you can switch out with DSLR lenses and my Rebel G just gave up on me!

I became inspired to shoot photos of my parents when they got sick, I felt like I had to capture every moment. I appreciate the way the images look and the process of shooting on film. My parents are doing better now but I’m continuing to shoot photos of people who I love and it’s become a really comforting hobby. I would be very grateful for an opportunity to shoot with one of the cannon rebels. 🙂

I would love to win one of these cameras! I have just got back into photography after about 10 years, and I have fallen back in love with it. I am so inspired to capture the world around me, and im currently using cheap point and shoots i found online. I really want to add one of these cameras to my arsenal.

I’m hesitant to say this for the potential market shift these may have… BUT, The 35mm Canon EOS systems are some of the most underrated film cameras out there. People tend to overlook them as the cheaper Rebel line of crop sensor DSLRs… however, the 35mm systems paired with virtually any Canon L glass or even the much underrated 50mm 1.8 (thrifty-fifty) for $125 brand new, can seriously hold its own. This camera has VERY high potential with the vast options of lenses available for the EF line.
Not to mention, these things are typically found on the cheap. I paid $3 for one. (shhh!)
I use mine in just about every situation for shooting 35mm including some upcoming behind the scenes footage for a film I’ll be assisting on. Which brings me to my point..

I love this camera so much that I actually need a secondary body for alternate lenses, plus to have as a backup. Because if something were to happen to it.. I’d probably cry over this $3 camera.

I’d like to win one of these to use it for street photo in auto mode and to shoot easy double exposures, that I shoot with every camera I get my hans on 🙂 and also — for teaching multiple exposure technics to my students.

Hi guys, I’d really love to get one of these! I’m using my Nikon F50 and Canon T50 for a long time now and it feels like a step into future technology for me 😄 I have a big heart for the underdog cameras. Love you guys 😘

I would love to be able to win on if these. I used to use my dads old Olympus OM-10 but it recently started having light leaks on every roll I shot so I quit using it. If I won it, I would use it for portraits. I used to only shoot digital for my portraits but just recently started shooting medium format but a trusty 35mm slr would become a go-to for portrait sessions.

Thanks for the giveaway!
I love documenting my home country and sharing stories about the amazing people that live there. I feel like as a photographer from Lebanon it’s my job to give a platform to a part of the world that doesn’t get a lot of positive media attention. Winning one of these cameras would help me give the people I love a voice and show them in their truest light.

*Giveaway Entry*

I’ve been getting more and more into photography over the past year, really beginning with my purchase of a used Pentax K1000 for a trip to Japan at the beginning of 2020. Obviously I fell in love with the process (and Japan! ) of capturing what spoke to me, and then seeing those results weeks later (if they turned out).

I’ve been shooting film ever since, but am now at the point where I could see myself pursuing photography as a full time job in the future. However, I think to fully be able to accomplish this I’ll need to add shooting digital to my repatoir.

I think winning this giveaway would 100% put me on that path.

@Klarkell

I’ve been taking pictures for a long time and I started this with a digital camera. But after I returned to my home country (I was living in Kazakhstan before), I was able to start shooting with film. It has increased my passion for photography much more and I want to try new things and take new photos every day. And I want to continue this passion with this camera and even open an exhibition with the photographs I took with the film. I would love to win this camera.

I would love the opportunity to win one of these cameras! I haven’t shot film photography since graduating from college years ago and my film camera broke unfortunately. Recently I’ve been going through old negatives and getting re-inspired! I am planning a photo shoot with Guatemalan friend for dios de Los muertos who does amazing body art. I would love to have a film camera to do it with! Hoping to also do some documentary dance photography and visual story telling of dance origins!

Absolutely love the whole Rebel line up. Have never shot with the SLR, but have been using the same Rebel DSLR for about 13 years at this point! Got one for Christmas after I took photography in high school and I’ve been attached to it, and the Canon name, ever since.

I would love to win one of these Rebels because all of my other film cameras are manual focus and it’s getting harder to keep up with my son as he goes from infant to toddler. The 40mm lens would be perfect for documenting his life. Great FOV and compact enough to take everywhere!

I would love to win the camera to help me with a “spooky” series I want to do in October. With so many ideas the rebel has so much range for a cheap cost and it would be the perfect camera to have for the project and as a beginner too!

I love analog photography, it is much better than digital because every photo is a surprise.
If I were the winner of a Canon Rebel, I would continue photographing the beaches of my city. The light in September and October in wonderful!

I would love to win one these cameras to use as an everyday shooter. Kind of like a personal photo journal of just my normal everyday! As well as taking it for travels overseas

I would love to win a new cheap camera haha. I’ve been running around with my great grandpa’s Minolta SRT-101 for a couple years now and would love to try out something new!!

I’m very fond of taking pictures so I would love to take pictures with one of these cameras it would be perfect for documenting every bit of happiness in life with the camera.

I would love to win this because my everyday camera doesn’t advance half the time! I would take it everywhere and also use it at home for fun projects <3

I would absolutely love to get my hands on one of these so I can use some of my ef canon glass with this, more specifically, my 8-15mm fisheye which I would absolutely LOVE to be able to experiment and try and shoot skating on film!

I once had a Canon Rebel, but sold it to get a DSRL. Three years ago I started shooting film again and regret selling it so much! I’d use it to continue documenting old buildings and businesses in my province before they’re torn down and replaced with boring contemporary monstrosities.

I would love to win a Canon Rebel to use as my “always ready” camera. I’m constantly looking for something small but mighty I can keep in my bag to shoot my day and I think this one would be great!

I am sort of new to film photography but I would love to try out one of these cameras! I always enjoy seeing your posts on IG with these cameras and would love the opportunity to try them out. I really want to take some portraits with this camera and a double exposure roll too 😀

I would love to play around with another camera! Film and photography as a whole has been such a lifesaver for me! It would be amazing to win one of these and see what I can capture with it (: Nowadays everything is digital, which is cool! But I prefer these kinds of cameras and this process of photography.

GIVEAWAY ENTRY

I’ve awalys loved photography and used to carry a camera with me since I was a child in the 80’s, before the digital cameras came around. In the early 2000’s I started working with digital cameras and also had the experience of working with film revelation in a dark room lab at university. Since then I became professional but always with Canon digital cameras of the Rebel line. I miss film photography and would be awesome to get back to it, specially with a Canon Rebel camera. Thank you guys for providing this opportunity! 😊

I loved this post and the example photos used!! I’d be so honored and humbled to win one of these in your giveaway. I picked up film photography back in March and have truly fallen in love with it, and have even started to take some decent shots!! It’d be sick to add this camera to my hopefully growing roster. Thanks for the content!!

I would enjoy the rebel specifically as a pointNshoot. I jumped into photography with older film cameras (Brownies, Rolleiflex and the bunch) and sort of glossed over cheap cameras for social unprompted situations. I’ve been itching to get into it and the rebel would be a perfect way to do so. I would be honored to receive a camera!

I’d love to win one of these Rebels. they look like really reliable shooters, and it’d be a bonus to be able to use my canon EF lenses that I already use for digital photography. it’d be a great day to day camera for capturing life moments

Winning one of these Canon Rebels would give me the opportunity to document my elderly mom during the remainder of this pandemic plus my new grandson whom I get to see once in awhile. I also would like to keep practicing my double exposures.

I’m hoping to photograph pretty much everything with one of these guys! My first very very cheap film camera was a Fujifilm Big Date 60 which I shot everything with and got some amazing photos. With these guys I’ll continue to shoot my friends, still life product shots and just awesome everyday life things I come across.

On the off chance I might win one of these cameras; it would immediately be gifted to my 9yo son. Since I started getting serious into shooting film, my son has become increasingly intrigued by the process. Instead of “hold on let me grab my camera.” It will be “let’s bring our cameras!” It would be nice to create moments together; bonding over a shared interest. AND he won’t be as annoyed when I’m constantly shoving the camera in his face shouting “STOP MOVING, AND LOOK MORE SAD. IM TRYING TO GET SOMETHING MOODY.” Then we can go out wearing matching beanies and flannels to shoot film. Next I’ll introduce him to pour-over coffee, and explain to him the only way to drink it is black.

I’d love to win one of these cameras, to continue working on a photo project here in NYC as well as in Oregon, and grow my skills in film format.

Just recently got back into shooting some film and would love to win one of these. I’ve been using my old Minolta x-700 and XG-A. I’ve never shot a Canon but would love to take if for a spin. My Instagram is apurdin.

I would love to win a Rebel because I smashed my 50mm 1.8 on a rock and now just have an unused body lying around 🙁

I’d love to win one of these! If I won, I would use the Canon Rebel to photograph portraits and landscapes. I would love to experiment with multiple exposures!

Thanks to remind us that nothing is what or seems.
Canon built his international reputation with professional but also consumer camera.
When I was young, I wanted a Canon camera and nothing else and today I have a canon AT-1 which has probably the same age than me.
Happy to take a chance to win a Canon rebel film camera.

I’ve always believed that its never about the gear but the photographer! And the Canon Rebel camera line is a beautifully competent and compact form of this belief, beginners and professionals can use it, and it will produce beautiful results regardless. (Also, how appealing is that price tag, phew!) The versatility and impact of this camera interests be greatly and it would be a great tool to use for my work, especially as an everyday carry that I can bring with anywhere and shoot with. (Especially for my projects where I do a lot of documentary styled work, like my current project ‘Keelvol’, where I am documenting my feelings/anxieties surrounding my small town).

I would love to have the camera to take photos of my nieces and nephews, as all their photos are taken with phones… ugggg! Would love to see black & white film shots of them!

Hey, consider this my give away entry.
I’m a miami/boston based artist and college student studying fine arts. The chance at receiving such a beautiful camera would be pretty life changing. I’d shoot just about anything I could see. From people around me and daily life to photoshoots and take images of street photography. Also obviously analog is far superior to digital, in colors more warm and natural and in grain not hard on the eyes it’s just beautiful and incomparable to that of digital photography.

I recently have started using film to capture the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife in the different locations I visit for work. Since ounces are pounds, and pounds are pain in the backcountry, I’ve been using an Olympus point and shoot. A small and lightweight camera wouldn’t break my back, while still allowing me to capture life as it unfolds in front of me.

I love photography and want to learn to develop my own film. If I won one of these cameras, I would use it to improve my technique and take full advantage of its capabilities.

IG:jessickathanyaaverage

The rebel was my very first film camera. I was lucky enough to be in a photography class at my high school that taught us the entire process… even had our own dark room. My first camera love!

I would definitely take these bad bois out to shoot while I’m camping and exploring CA and the American west. Covid times have been tough but getting outside and shooting when I can has been great therapy without a doubt. I have a Minolta XG-1 passed down from dad that works just as well as it did when it was made in 1977. I’ve always believed that using a budget camera is the way to go because it forces you to think more about the composition than the gear you’re using in order to take a great photo.

(Giveaway entry)
I would love to win this camera so I can spread the love of film to as many friends as possible. I have a Nikon FM2 which I love, but it’s heavy and technical, and somewhat intimidating to people who are new to film. I would bring the Rebel with me everywhere, especially for portraits which is my personal favorite. I want to show people how easy it is to shoot with film, how beautiful the results can be, how it helps us be just a little less dependent on our phones, the joy of rediscovering an image months after you forgot you captured it, the value of each frame when you only get a certain number, the romance, the nostalgia – all of it.

With one of these camera in my hands it will give me the ability to step out of the digital world for a little, away from the 100’s of photos each time I shoot and deleting whatever I didn’t like on the spot. And focusing on spending more time on the 24 photos you get to make sure they count. And it would be sick for my Instagram!

Hey! It’s been my last semester here in the US, so I would really appreciate it if I could have one of those to keep memories of my friends, the landscape I experienced here, people around as well as the place I lived in into photographs! Thank you very much!

I would totally love to win one of these Rebels to take with me on my next trip – a drive and camp trip from Denver to Utah and Arizona for the Grand Canyon. This would be the perfect camera to have on hikes where I don’t have to worry about it but I know it’ll produce great images. Thanks for the opportunity.

I would love to win one of the rebels because I sold mine for rent money a couple of years ago to a young girl who was interested in photography. She was a beginner and I offered her my rebel because they’re so easy to use yet take great photos. I had that camera for 10 years, Even named her Sylvia after Sylvia Plachy. I took thousands of great photos before I sold it and I miss it all the time. Would love to get a chance to make more art like that again. Fingers crossed.

I would love one of these cameras as a everyday and travel camera! I shoot film occasionally on my Minolta but would love to try play around with something new.

I would love one of these cameras to teach my girlfriend about film photography. She has been interested in it, but is always shy about using my cameras because she’s scared she breaks them. It would be lovely to be able to share the hobby with her.

I want to win one of these Rebel film cameras to be my everyday film camera with the option of interchangeable lens. I currently shoot with a Canon 35AFM which I love, but sometimes having the option to shoot a longer focal length would be nice. There’s a magic to shoot film and I feel like using one of the Rebels would definitely get me shooting more than I already am.

I love pictures and capturing a special moment. I live in Salem Oregon and we are dealing with fires. Smoke. Ash. Protesters. Oregon people and Oregon places are so beautiful and cool. I want to capture it with this camera. I would use it to capture the Apple store in downtown Portland covered with pictures of the fallen victims of racism. I would use it to capture the ravages of the fires in Detroit Oregon. I would use it to capture the fog rolling into Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City Oregon. I would use it to capture the small business like Pips Donuts in North East Portland or Kees Loaded Kitchen to capture the faces of Portland and Oregon. Most of all. I am a mom of boys and at 16 and 13 they are growing bigger and older by the second and I want to capture that to keep even when they eventually grow up and leave. That is what I think cameras are our memories captured and held still until the moment is gone. Thank you for doing this contest. Fingers crossed!! Teresa B

Hi! My name is Lucas and I love photography. Two months ago I bought a film camera to start my experience in film photography (because I only hace digital) but they selled a broken camera so I cannot use it. I ‘ve been searching for a long time for use one and I’m so excited only thinking about all the interesting results. I read the entire post and I saw the solutions with this Canon and they are fantastic! The more photos I see, the more I want to try it. I ‘ll use it a lot: objects, memories with friends and family, landscapes, portraits, contemporary photos, etc. I assure that I’m gonna make a good use of the camera!

After many years, I am back in school finishing my art degree. I’d like to win one of these canon’s because photography is my outlet, my sketchbook…the way I filter through maybe a little too much mind junk.

I’d love one’a these because I’m getting a little tired of my AE-1. It was my dad’s & I love it and the photos it takes but it’s my dedicated B/W camera (Elan 7 is my color) and it’s sometimes a hassle getting the settings just right for every frame. Digital metering is so much easier with the two wheels and the meter inside the viewfinder. Pick me!

Hi! I would love to win one of these cameras! I would take pictures of my everyday life, my family, friends, and dogs. The only film I’ve used is from a disposable camera and I would love to see what I could do with an upgrade, and also switch to a more environmentally friendly camera.

I already owned a Canon EOS Elan II film camera. My son started get into photography with some of my digital cameras. I think the Rebel would be a good tool to teach him film photography and also teach him to develop film at home.

*Giveaway entry*
Ever since I’ve been 14 years old, my love for photography has grown. My family and I, unfortunately, can’t afford any good to moderate camera because of my country lacks of good pay and job opportunities.

Currently I’m a 17 year old senior living in Puerto Rico. In the last two years of my life, I’ve been battling with depression and a bipolar disorder. The only thing that keeps me sane is photography. It would be an honor and with great gratitude to win one of these cameras.

I would love to use a new camera to practice my double exposures! I’m always taking photos and always trying to learn and improve. Fall colors would be an awesome backdrop for portraits of the people I love.

I’ve recently gotten into 35mm to capture moments I can show my kids when the time comes. I want to document my life so I can show them to enjoy every second. I also hope my pictures can capture the beauty of our world, even though this pandemic has shifted our mindset. I still believe some beauty can result from these strange times. Lastly, it would be a great birthday present as it is the day after my 25th birthday. Nevertheless, to whoever wins I wish you well and happy shooting.

Hi!
I shoot only film these days, and have a big collection of different cameras and lenses, in different formats as well, most of them are all manual cameras.
I’m mostly a Nikon shooter, my main cameras are the nikon F4s and FM2 (being the F4s the only camera I own with an electronic shutter and auto functions), and I love both for what they are capable of in different scenarios, they are a super duet and always when shooting carry both around. What I see convenient about the Canon is almost all the possibilities of the F4 in a smaller and lighter body, such as the FM2, but even lighter and with af and auto mode, which sometimes I like to use during my free time. I don’t think it would replace my main cameras, as I am also mostly a manual shooter and I love the feeling of my nikkor ais lenses, but it would be a great addition to the crew, specially when I’m out with the family and want to capture moments without so much fiddling with knobs and buttons, without carrying the weight of a F4s everywhere around, for example when hiking or trekking. Also could be used by other family members that are not so fluent handling a camera and take pictures of me, I usually never see myself in pictures because I’m always behind the camera! Haha 😛
Congratulations in advance for the winners, good luck to everyone!

I would make this my everyday camera due to the size and weight of it. My friend has this lens and I love it, so small and sharp! I would take photos of my Son growing up, our adventures together, and my family. I enjoy urban landscapes, street, detail photos, and food…who doesn’t love food?? Right now my daily carry is a Samsung af slim, but would love something with more control. My canon A-1 is great, but no autofocus and it’s kind of heavy to carry all day. Either way, if I don’t win, it’s awesome of you to do the giveaway!

Firm believer in using tools as tools. Without hype and facade, the Canon Rebel models are sure to capture unique moments that are beyond its practical foundation. While we are often lost in coveting all kinds of elusive gear, we also lose the opportunity to be creative with the craft itself. Basics will always be fundamental. Great giveaway!

I would get to shoot more film… given that the Yashica 108 I got as a film camera-hand me down- barely even accepts any decent lens one can hope to find.

Anyways, peace. 🖖🖖

As a beginner to film photography, I would take advantage of learning the passion of this beautiful art medium with this camera. This immense medium would grant me the opportunity to finally pursue my life long dream of documenting Southeast Los Angeles, where I grew up. As a form of resistance to the ongoing project of gentrification that is taking place there along with the displacement of BIPOC communities, I am empowered to record its history and to create dialogue through photographing community landmarks such as small businesses, interviewing families, and places to highlight the cultural transformations and political implications of development that are taking place around Southeast LA. Thank you so much for the opportunity and I hope to realize this vision of mine with your generous help!

I’m in a very transitional period in my life, where I’ll soon be moving away from the place I’ve called home for 16 years. I’ve just recently gotten into film photography in the past year, and would use one of these cameras to capture the beauty around here before I go and take those photographs with me.

Awesome read! Thank you for sharing ☺️
Would love to use one of these bad boys to help create my first lookbook for my fashion work. Would add such a beautiful texture to the overall look! 🤗

I’d love to win one of the awesome cameras! I would use it to document rad landscapes while biking in cool places!

I started getting into film photography when one of my friends lent me hers and sent me the developed shots that I took. I then started rummaging my room to look for the old film cameras that we have and found an olympus point and shoot cam. It was still fully functional and I was about to use it but my mom got excited about it so I let her use it and decided to buy my own Minolta rangefinder June this year. Since then, I’ve been taking the camera with me everywhere we go; may it be a trip to the grocery, visiting a relative’s house, camping, walking around the neighborhood or biking.

I would love to win one of these cameras to give to one of my young photography students who just lost her dad, got put in the foster care system, and doesn’t have the money to get herself a nicer camera (she photographs using the tablet she has for school).

First of all, these photos are so cool!!! I’ve been using the Darkroom for a while now and am always inspired by you guys and what you do. If I won one of these cameras I’d be so stoked! I like to shoot those in between moments of not only my life but the lives of the people around me, because there are no better memories to hold onto than those with your family and friends. I’d use the camera to document times like those once I move back to Washington near my family in December! Can’t wait! Thanks for doing this you guys and congrats to whoever you select!

I’d love to finally have a camera with a meter in it! I’d like to start shooting more fast-paced candids of me and my friends going on adventures, but that gets a little hard when I have to meter each shot.

It would be incredible to win one of the incredible Canon Rebels just because, let’s be honest here, any film camera gives me one more good reason to spend time in the dark room (and it’s never too much)

I would love one of the rebel cameras because I want to start taking more film photos and am new to it, I’ve been taking digital photos for a while now and I want to try film. I have film cameras and have used them and I love it! I want to get a film camera with a flash in it because some of my first photos didn’t come out too well. I want to take more portrait photos and some landscape photos and hopefully document my whereabouts. It would be a great addition to my camera collection and I would love to use it.

I would love to win one of these cameras because I’m planning a road trip to Sedona AZ this fall and would love to have this camera to capture the raw beauty there. I’ve shot a couple rolls of film and loved the look of them so I will definitely be shooting film more often.

I won’t lie, I was sold after watching TDR video you guys put out about these ‘cheap’ bodies, even better I already have glass that will be compatible. I’m also all about being able to capture a solid image without needing the most sought after gear!

Hi! I love your page and follow all your film reviews. I’m photographing for about 20 years now as my main hobby and personal way of expression. I would really love to win one of the rebel for my girlfriend, she’s really into photography and she wants to start learning, so it would be a great push for her!

Thank you for the opportunity to participate, these types of initiatives are appreciated and we will be honored if we win. Good luck for all of you!

I would love to win one of these because the Rebel is one of those cameras I’ve loved without ever owning. The image results always satisfy when I view them and, after borrowing one once, I thought it was a thing of beauty. I live in New England and would love to use this in my project of shooting lighthouses and old cemeteries. Yours, wishitwasfilm (IG)

Hi, I would like to win any of these cameras because I’m starting to get into film and I want to be able to use my ef lenses from my digital cameras on these cameras!

I would love a Canon Rebel
as an everyday camera for our lifestyle photos in Hawaii. The Rebel is such a nostalgic camera for me!

(Forgot my insta tag the first time)

Film is my favorite and I love canon. I can’t wait to hopefully travel the world again and taking any one of these cameras along with me would be amazing. Thanks for always doing such awesome giveaways. Looking forward to winning one soon!

Hi! I purchased a minolta 35mm in Sevilla Spain last year and every since I have been in love with film. Every roll that I finish I send it off for you and your team to develop. I was very thankful for the fast processing and awesome quality photos you produced even during a pandemic. I would love one of these rebel cameras to take more photos abroad and send them off for processing through your lab. Thank you again!

I would love to win one of these camera’s, because I think it would be an amazing way to teach/get my brother started in photography. Especially into the world of film! He always helps me develop my film, and he loves taking pictures with my camera. But having his own – he would be on top of the world!

Loving the photos these cameras produce! I would love to win one of these cameras in order to try out a new type of film camera! I’ve never used a canon branded film camera before, but I am very versed in their digital cameras!

Hey everyone at thedarkroom! My name is Giovanni Gonzalez and I have 2 similar cameras, a Canon Rebel Ti and a Canon Rebel G. Both great cameras, cheap, lightweight and versatile. I’ve used them alot through the years mainly for travel, portraits and automotive photography. If I win I wouldn’t mind any of them, surprise me! Thanks you for your time guys!

I would love to win one of these camera because my Canon elan 2 is broken and it has been impossible to find another here during covid. I’m loyal to film as well and I want to shoot film to support a local film shop here called Stewart’s photo and local developing place called kellers. They give you your negatives back also which I love here in Alaska. I want film to stay alive and if I have to do it alone I will. If I won one of these my goal would be to shoot all Alaskan seasons on film ( really would love to shoot fall here on film the colors are divine ) also start offering film shoots here 🙂 I want to show people the beauty of film..I love the way a film camera feels . I love the patience a film camera gives me.from.putrikf in the roll to taking the pictirss. To dropping it off and picking it up from getting developed The whole process is like Christmas. Also picking up the film to putting in your camera to going around exploring ,capturing raw ,authentic emotions and secnes. I would love to teach my siblings how to shoot on film also 🙂

I sold cameras for a number of years and always stressed that spending your money on lenses and less on the “box” holding the film was the best route. This is a great setup for beginners the “K1000” of Canon EOS system. As an active member of a photography club I am among the few that shoot film and the only one that shoots all film I am involved with new members and beginners. I happen to have a young Deaf student that has shown interest in film and moving his skills beyond that of his cell phone, I love seeing how the youth today continue to surprise me. When I begin to think about how “plugged in” kids are today then they pop up and want to do it “like they did in the olden days”, gotta laugh. I appreciate that you all are such great advocates for film photography, sure its your business but still, putting cameras in the hands of those less fortunate is awesome. Thank you for all that you do!

COOL CHEAP FILM CAMERAS!!! :0
I am 100 percent a newb in the film world, recently thrifted a point&shoot and started to try to shoot films.
I knew nothing about photography and never thought of actually getting into it, except always getting the urge/obsession to record/capture moments and memories through photos. Then I realized I loved it.
The new world is definitely making us rethink, explore and pursue more!
Getting a cool cheap camera or not, I am definitely starting my journey of shooting films, preserving moments, memories, serendipities.

I would love to win one of these cameras because I just started film photography this year and fell in love! My dad gifted me a digital camera when I was a teenager and getting back into photography has made me feel closer to him since he passed. I want to use this camera to take pictures in my community and to take portraits of my family and friends!

Winning one of these cameras would allow me to capture those ever passing everyday moments of my 2 and 5 year old! My mom has countless photos of us kids from when we were kids and they were all shot on film and I treasure them so much! So many of my memories are tied to those photos. I would love to share that love of photography and film with my kids as they grow older!

I wanna shoot my community. I want to capture the DMV on 35mm film. The great thing about the DMV is we get the city, the suburbs, and the country all within a 30-minute car ride. Staycations are all I have during this pandemic.

Hi Dark Room!

During lockdown I’ve become more interested in film and taking pictures of the views from my quiet apartment in Texas and also of my parents who are in their golden years. I’d love one of these cameras because it would continue to inspire me to photograph my life now in these uncertain times and also the people who mean the most to me.

Hope y’all are staying safe out there!

My boyfriend has a newfound love for travel photography and videography. He’s wildly talented already, even with only the use of his phone and small GoPro. I’d love to win a Canon Rebel as a birthday gift for him.

*giveaway entry*
I got into shooting film around a year and a half ago after buying a cheap rangefinder camera with no stutter button at a market stool. After only really shooting pictures on my phone despite taking photography up in school, film felt like a very manual breath of fresh air! I got very attached to the little broken camera! I took it all the way to Ireland and captured some pictures that I am very proud of! But as I tried new things I inevitably started to see the limitations of it, despite it being a solid camera. To my delight My grandad surprised me out of the blue one day and presented me with a Zenit 12xp slr which I shoot with down to this day! As I started to develop ideas of pictures that worked well I found myself discovering how shy I was at taking pictures of people. Both the Zenit and the rangefinder camera were brilliant but took a while to set up a shot which only made me more nervous or miss the shot altogether.

I think any model of the canon Eos rebel would really help me both gain the confidence to take on the scary world of street photography whilst also making me quick enough to do so with its fast auto focus!

Thanks for reading, sorry if I rambled a bit 😬

Hi, I would love to win one of these cameras because I have recently rekindled my creative spark and have been taking photos with my digital Canon Rebel camera, but I’d love to have a film camera so that I can get comfortable shooting with film again and eventually develop my own film!!

If I where to win this contest I would photography my community and how the current situation is affecting every aspect of livelihoods. Using photography as a tool to create awareness is a great medium to reach people. IG: chanolight_

I would want to win a camera because I’ve been taking disposable camera pics for a while and want to step it up and learn from one of these bad boys! It would also be great to use less disposables because of how bad they are for the environment.

Hoping to explore a new creative mode of expression 🙂 (stay safe everyone!)

Hey there!! My name is Lanae, I’m a college student and I would love to win one of these cameras because I have always had an intense love for photography! I took several photography classes in Highschool and would love the chance to expand my photography skills. I also love the outdoors and would love to be able to capture my hikes with one of these cameras!! Thanks:)

IG: ellang8

I’ve been shooting my whole life, started out on disposable cameras when I was little, and the canon Rebel was my first digital camera. I’ve always sung it’s praises. I have recently rediscovered my love of film and would love to have a Canon Rebel to shoot with!

I would love on of these Rebels because the results you show us with it are truly amazing. Rebel looks like everyday use camera and that’s the best. I would use it to help me make my first zine about my city and how I see it live. People, animals, places. How it works together and how is everything pulsing together.

I’d love one of these because I love having a knock around film camera that I can take hiking. A lot of my film gear is hard to get again (Minolta Super A, Rolleiflex Automat, etc.) so it’s nice to not have to worry about something that’s reliable and can create excellent images!

Beautiful shots!! I have been saving up to buy a new camera, and during quarantine, I want to get more creative with my shots and also form a sort of photographic identity for myself by taking more artistic shots of myself and my daily life. Any of these cameras would be wonderful to further advance my photographic journey! My Instagram is @pia_rani.

Trying to get into film photography to slow down when I’m out on bike rides and hikes! One of these Rebels would be the perfect adventure companion for capturing moments on the go!

IG @drew.brews

Those are some awesome film shots! I definitely think photography is not so much about the gear and much more about using what you have to the fullest of its capacity.

I am a canon girl through and through. I would love to win one these gems to stay glued to my side as I shoot candid, organic life moments. I am obsessed with making real moments into permanent, tangible memories. Crossing all my fingers for this one. Thank you for running this contest!

Hey there,
Winning any of these cameras would be an awesome gift to my girlfriend.

She’s very intimidated by a lot of the information on the web about film photography, and if she had a seamless/minimal camera like one of these, she would totally have FUN learning it.

We would more than likely go on hikes and photograph our journey doing so.

I’d like to have any Canon EOS AF again, to take many street shoots easily than using a manual focus camera, which of course is a different way and style of shooting that varies depending on the situations (both valid by the way), I had a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 and as crazy as it sounds I used it as a kind of reflex P&S, which exceeds the quality of almost any point and shoot. Sadly it was stolen a couple years ago when I was taking photograph in dangerous neighborhoods.

I’d like to win so that I can gift the camera to a friend that shoots with a digital rebel. I think she would love film and would be able to use the lenses she already has on one of these bodies!

Learned on a K1000. Graduated to a Pentax Super Program which I probably ran 10,000 miles of film thru. Now shooting a Pentax Ks2 dslr.

Want to get back into film but my Super Program needs some reconditioning. Always liked the lightweight, fast, and quiet Rebels.

I love to shoot landscapes, candid people, pets and wild life, art, trains, planes and automobiles, and macro shots.

I would love a lightweight film camera. I had a spinal injury a little over two years ago and still have a lot of pain the keeps me from carrying or using heavy gear. It has really hurt my ability to make art. I’ve been researching cameras that I could easily carry around and am very interested in shooting film, as I have access to discounted film through a friend and would really love to start using film over digital. This looks like a perfect set up. In the past I have done painting and photo series with a Mamiya but that is way too heavy now. If I got a Rebel it would allow me to get back to making art and the simplicity would help me relearn film photography. Thanks you for the chance.

I would love to own any of these cameras because I am still very new to film and would love to learn more with one of these. I am about to have my 1 year wedding anniversary and would love to film and trip to the mountains!

I would love to have one of these rebels because I would love to be able to use the AF, I also have a canon camera and I would love to use my other glass lens on it as well, I would also love to use a film camera that has a 2000th shutter speed so I can shoot white open mid day

Agree wit this 100%–you don’t need expensive gear to take great photos. It’s all about control of the subject/composition, esp when it comes to analog cameras. I learned about photography on a Canon EOS, and it was great! I would love to continue my photographic journey with this Rebel. After all, a shot through the lens is only part of the equation–the other being the Dark Room’s film processing 🙂

You may think this is crazy but I’d love to mount one of these to my motorcycle. It hasn’t been done before but a GoPro just doesn’t have the same appeal. One of the most profound realizations for me as a photographer was when I purchased my first “expensive” camera. People around me gave it more attention than I wanted, it felt unsafe to take it out at times, and I was babying it more than I was shooting with it. Owning it gave me more anxiety than creativity so I sold it and cut back to the basic old gear. I definitely shot a lot more when I wasn’t worrying about my gear and instead focusing on what’s in front of the gear. Thanks for sharing this knowledge with your audience! It definitely isn’t always about chasing the expensive stuff and I’m glad a popular photo blog is talking about this.

I’d love to win a camera because I have recently fallen in love with film! I have a Minolta x-700 and am wanting to collect cameras especially ones that work! I’d be honored to add a canon to my film collection. My mom had a canon film camera when I was a kid, and I have a digital one now.

Ahhh canon FOREVER! Still using mines form high school and the gear my grandad left me when he passed. I’m 31 and expecting our first so I was super excited to see this give away! Thank you again for this awesome opportunity. Anyone would be lucky to win!

I would very much love to win one of these film cameras. I recently got re-interested in shooting film after nearly 20 years and would like to have one of these cameras to use for creative landscape photography as well as general travel and photos of friends and family. I thank you very much for the opportunity. Wishing everyone good luck!

I want to win a Rebel because during college I became drawn to film photography, and since I’ve graduated I want to expand my skills. I would take this camera everywhere to capture and memorialize ordinary moments, which is what I love about film photography. My goal with photography is to create cinematic images with simple subjects and often I find myself using self portraiture to examine and dissect my own identity. The Canon Rebel is clearly a useful tool in achieving that cinematic look, which is why I’m really drawn to this camera and would love to work with it. My Instagram is @snokes.photo and features some of my personal and school photography work.

(Sorry for the repeat entry. Forgot my IG handle: gtu14)

I want to show people how easy it is to shoot with film, how beautiful the results can be, how it helps us be just a little less dependent on our phones, the joy of rediscovering an image months after you forgot you captured it, the value of each frame when you only get a certain number, the romance, the nostalgia – all of it.

it would be awesome to win one of these bc i’ve never shot one. i shoot film every week and usually have film in 3 to 4 different cameras at a time. i have a great digital camera, but it honestly feels like cheating now when i shoot it. film just adds so much more depth and character to a photo. i love the simplicity and complexity film provides. i also love that it pulls me away from starting at a screen. i prefer simple film cameras rather than complicated ones. it would be great to try a new one out!

Canon K2 was my first camera my Dad got me going into college, last year I lost it on the train going from NYC to CT after loading a fresh portra 800 into it. I hope whoever found it loves it as much as I do, but I do miss it dearly after my father passed away from ALS.

Hello The darkroom las dudes and Gals!
I would love to win one of these combos. I have been shooting Nikon since the early 2000’s and used to be a Nikon Snob, however I recently (2 yeas ago) purchased a canonet QL17 III and I love using it. I like the optics and the fact that is manual. The focal length is interesting not the usual 50mm I’m used to nor the 35mm I also use. I would like to also be able to have interchangeable lenses (which I can’t do with my Canonet), so this would be perfect. I would actually dedicate it to shooting remote learning of my kids and perhaps a 2020 school yearbook for my kids.
(I never win but if I don’t participate I have a 0% chance, so hopefully this time is the charm)
@oabofilm

If I have the opportunity to win one of the cameras I would use it a lot for my grandma portraits, nature, and everything that caught my eyes attention while walking. Thanks a lot to give us to all this chance. Good luck to everyone(including me 🤭☺️)!!!

I’m currently enrolled in a Photography I class at my university and I would love to apply the technical skills I am learning on a new camera. I’ve recently started shooting portraits on film and find that they are much more personal than the ones I’ve taken on digital. Thanks for offering this & always developing my film <3

I would love one of these canon rebel film cameras. I’m a big Canon user when it comes to digital photography & recently started heavily shooting film & developing at home this would take my photography to another level.

I’d love to win one of these cameras to photograph my sisters and my community. Having visual memories of the people and places that make me happy is important to me. They tell a thousand stories that can be passed down from generation to generation.

I would love to win a camera not just for myself, but mostly for my little brother. I’m a college student and my brother just got to high school. He wants to get into the film industry after high school, being either an actor, writer, or director (he says hopefully all 3). We’ve already been playing around with my old video recorder and film cameras, but if I were to win one, I’d mostly let him use to photograph places and people that inspire him to write and create scenes in his head. I love that he’s connected to his artsy-side and I think he would put it to great use.

I would love one of these cameras to shoot people and especially all of my adventures out off the grid in nature. I organize many environmental projects along with running a school enviro club, so it would be great to have this opportunity to photograph the things I love to share for these groups and projects.

I’d love to win this camera mostly because I’m really intrigued by the capabilities of a 35mm film camera that I can pair with my Canon lenses. I’ve been trying to get a Rebel G for a couple weeks, bought a few from Craigslist, but so far no luck on the camera working which has been a huge bummer🙃Definitely would love to get one from a company I can trust

I would love to win one of these Canons as the Elan II was my first camera. It fell apart after years of heavy use and I moved to an AE-1. My fiance wants to start taking photos with me and I’d love to have an extra camera for her to learn on.

Photography has this misconception that its all about the equipment. Type of body, lenses, etc. i feel its about who is taking the images, and what emotion they’re trying to draw out. Cheap doesn’t mean bad quality. I want a chance to show that.
You can take beautiful images that speak to people, with any kind of camera, as long as you’re doing it with purpose. Not for the likes, not for the features. The camera shouldn’t matter, its about the art of it, about the people, about showing life through different eyes. Constantly changing perspectives. Challenging your self. Creating something from nothing.

(I rambled a bit, but I feel passionately about it and didn’t want to answer in some essay format. Never worked for me in the past, so here I am speaking from my heart!)

Hope you can resonate with it enough that I’m gifted one of those “cheap” beauties! Would truly help me better capture the simplicity of my little man’s adventures.

Thanks for coming to my TedTalk 😆

I’ve always been fond of capturing moments. Lately, I have been taking a lot of photographs with film and it has turned into more than just a hobby. To naturally be able to seize double exposures would be wonderful because I really enjoy how it collides into delivering a simultaneous harmony. I’ve also always thought that it doesn’t really matter what gear you have but the person’s intentions behind it. This would be a great example.

Season 2, Episode 5: Meredith Tells Derek, “Pick Me, Choose Me, Love Me”

I would love to win one of these Canons so that my family and friends will stop thinking of my photography hobby as just a silly exercise! My husband seems to think that my current camera–a much-loved and much-abused Canon Sure Shot 80 Tele–has something to do with it. One of these cameras would not only let me expand and explore my photography skills, but also might stop my family from sighing with irritation every time I pull out my camera! (Photographic evidence of how annoying my family finds my hobby available upon request.)

It’s not about the gear or the cost of the camera at all! I shoot with a Canon EOS 630–it belonged to my dad in the 90s. As a beginner, this camera has forced me to understand all the settings (especially compared to my digital camera) and I love the photos I’ve been getting! I’d love to win a Rebel to give my sister, who has been keeping an eye on film cameras for some time now. I’ve been waiting for her to get one so we can go shoot film together. 🙂

I would love to win one of these Canon cameras, because I shoot Canon digital, and would love to use those lenses on a film body! I shoot Nikon SLRs for 35mm, but would love to see what I could do with an autofocusing 35mm!

I would love to win one of these beauties as the only film cameras I own are toy cameras which have developed my love for film photography but I want to learn more and am ready to graduate to a camera with some real options. Thank you!

I would use these cameras to document the natural changes around me and the expand my skills as a photographer. I originally started conservation photography in college and now, more than ever, it is important I revive my dedication to exhibit the environmental issues and natural beauty around us.

Ever since my film camera broke I’ve been needing to buy a new one. The one I have shoots blanks and it’s so sad. I’ve been just shooting on my Polaroid and instax camera which is awesome! I miss shooting with a 35 mm and getting them developed. My goal was to buy a new canon 35 mm but money is always an issue. 🙁 I miss shooting portraits and abandoned buildings. I strictly use film because I love it so much but also needing to buy a new digital camera. Maybe I’ll have some luck here with winning a new film camera. I’m not really good with words when nervous. I never enter anything really. But photography is my passion and I have to try. Thanks for reading

All the love – Kayla Mueller

These are very underrated cameras. Those lenses are so nice! If i was to win one of them, i would give it to my daughter because she is getting into photography. It would be a simple way of introducing her to film photography with a not so complicated camera. I love your photos taken from these cameras!! Thanks!

These cameras seem very simple and take amazing photos for what they are. Didn’t realize all these photos were taken on them. Would love to win one since my older rebel unfortunately broke and only use my phone for photography now.

I’d love to win one of these so I can see what they’re all about(only have ever shot vintage cameras and vintage glass) and see how awesome the photos I shoot come out! If I win, I’d definitely take it with me to go shoot more photos of the northwest since my minolta srt101 just broke and I can’t at the moment!

Winning this camera or any of the cameras for that matter would be great excitement. My brother recently was put in a wheelchair from a condition called CCM. Photography is one of my passions and is something that I would like to teach my brother more about. Getting this camera would be something for him that I could teach him the basics of photography and film. Thank you for doing this giveaway!!!

Hi there!
My name is Belle Brady and I’m from Arizona. One of the reasons why I would put a good use into the cameras is because I’m interested in film making as my career. Yes although photography is different from creating short films and videos, but it will help me learn how to use a camera and properly take care of it. I know I’m young and I’m still in high school but this is just one step further into my future career. With Arizona being known for its valleys, mountains, and yes the Grand Canyon, i will able to capture memories with my family and friends before I go to college. I’m in a film class but I have to rely on my phone to take videos and pictures which isn’t fun at all. Thank you for reading this if you did and have a wonderful day

I would love to win one of these cameras. I am a photography student and I want to experiment with different photography styles and get to know all about the mechanics in different styles of camera. I enjoy portrait and street photography. This could help me expand on them.

Hi Darkroom. I would love to win a Rebel because I am wanting to explore photography more and see what I can do. I have been taking photos on disposables for 3 years now and I love it but I want to up my game. I think it would be amazing to photograph my experience of starting a PhD program during a pandemic and all the little nuances that come along with this journey. I currently live in Denver but my PhD program is at Columbia University. Excited to move to New York originally, I am excited to see what this journey of virtual school and living across the country will bring in this beautiful state. Socially distant activities are readily available with the beautiful mountains in the backyard. It would be incredible to catch some of my experience here as I navigate this new phase in life but not quite in the location or manner I was expecting.

I have just gotten into the film photography thing and would absolutely love something to take with me wherever I go.

I would love to win one of the Rebels! Reason being, I currently have a $5 Pentax point and shoot for my everyday camera. Winning one of these Rebels would greatly help me make my jump into more series portrait and lifestyle photography with a 35mm camera!

That’s a cool camera, it would be nice if i could have one of it, i will take more amazing pictures with those camera, right bow i really want to make a prewedding or couple session with film camera it would be easier to do with canon rebel with af lenses. Right now im using yashica fx3 super 2000 to shoot around Jakarta, i also planning giving it away to my brother for the purpose of his educational at university, canon rebel will be the good replacement for my yashica.

The small size and weight on these cameras would make one of these ideal for every day carry. I like the idea of always having a camera on me for street photography but my current set up is way too bulky and heavy to carry around casually and discreetly. I could dangle one of these around my neck or shoulder and always have it handy without standing out too much.

(giveaway entry)
I recently got into film photography, started out with a disposable camera and now am shooting on a Vivitar point and shoot. Although my Vivitar is not in the best condition as the battery covering is missing and the flash doesn’t work, I’m still grateful to even own a camera and be able to take pictures. I woud love to win a Rebel to develop more of my photograph skills and explore having the ability to change the settings and be more creative with what I shoot. I am also currently a college student, so I would love to have this camera to capture the moments I am experiencing. Good luck to everyone and thank you for even doing this in the first place!

I would love to win one of these cameras because of their great range of features and how well they’ve hold up over the years. I usually shoot in Southern California be it would be a great camera for the beautiful lightning we get down here.

TEST TEST
*PICK ME* I’ve been reloading this site for the last three hours trying to see if my comment is posting! (Nope, still don’t see it)

I just had film developed with the Dark Room this week, and one of the rolls did not develop. Someone from the dark room team took the extra step and emailed me saying that they would love to help me figure out why. After discussing the issues I’ve had with my one and only film camera, it’s believed there is an issue with my camera 🙁 I’ve been looking at new ones but just can’t afford a new one right now. I would LOVE the opportunity to win one of these. My fiancé and I are eloping in Joshua Tree in November and a working camera to capture that would be amazing!!

Ah! I would love to have one of these Rebels! I shot on a hand-me-down Canon SLR when I was first learning photography – it was a gift from my grandfather. I’d like to experiment with shooting some portraits with one of these and hopefully some landscapes (if we get to travel soon!).

I’d love to win one of these cameras, to expand my camera selection & to continue my passion for film photography. I took photography in college & afterwards didn’t have the time or money to develop film & make prints. After discovering The Darkroom I feel
I have an opportunity to get back my game. I’m excited to see where I can go with my photography & to learn how to develop my process more.

I would love to take this camera on trips with my friends to capture outdoor moments with them. This camera would get used by the whole group and make for some really interesting and super fun photos! It’s my last semester in college so it would be great to capture some memories with them.

I’ve been shooting iPhone and 35mm film cameras. My main shooter other Kodak cameo motor ex. I love the simplicity so I think the automation of the rebel would hep me take higher quality photography without the steep learning curve. I’ve been wanting to try slow iso Black and White an I think the rebel camera would be a good match for that.

I’d love to win one of these cameras! I’ve been taking pictures solely with point-and-shoot film cameras that I found at thrift stores. Getting one of these cameras would give me a chance to grow, make mistakes and learn more about film photography. And also to feel more confident in myself without having to compare myself with other people. This will be amazing!

I would love to shoot with one of these! I currently shoot mostly with my Canon A-1, which used to belong to my dad. I enjoy shooting street photography, but have always worried a little about carrying around a camera that has so much sentimental value to me. It would be nice to have a good camera that can easily/cheaply be replaced if someone else decides they want it more than me.

Hey!

Ever since I picked up an iPhone and started taking random photos, I fell in love with photography—in love. I had just got on Instagram, and the photos I would see on there were just breathtaking. Of course, the photographers who took them were professionals, and I was just a newbie, but the passion, oh, man, stayed with me through all these years! I went on to buy a DSLR later on, with the money that I had borrowed from my mom, not knowing when I would be able to pay her back.

That was around the time I had this idea of throwing a group exhibition in Berkeley. Long story short, it was such a huge success, and I was able to pay mom back for the camera in less than a year! You can read about us here: https://narratively.com/iran-unveiled-the-street-photography-collective-that-shows-the-softer-side-of-iran

Anyway, I have been really, really passionate about getting into film photography, and I think this could be it!

If you read this so far, thank you!

-Entry for the contest-
I will carry it EVERYWHERE!!!
I am new to the analog world and a problem i have with analog cameras is that they are to heavy and to big, plus the autofocus mode is going to help me sweetly trough digital to analog!!!

I have always had a love for older Rebels. I am currently running a clunky Ricoh XR-10 (also normally branded as the KR-10X, dunno why mine is the way it is), and attempting to get back into photography. Unfortunately this camera and lenses are starting to see its age, and the split image focus is starting to not be so easy to use. If I managed to get my hands on a new camera I may be able to retire this one for the time being until I can fix it, even if it is 35 bucks ha. I love shooting impromptu and getting scenes in the moment.

I took a photography class in high school, and we shot black and white film on the Canon Rebel K2. Although it’s been over a decade, I still remember the exact camera—I enjoyed shooting on it that much. This camera, as well as my photography teacher, truly fostered my love of film photography. Looking back at my old photographs brings back a flood of memories, and I’d love shoot on this camera again!

I would absolutely love to win one of these cameras because I never want to stop experimenting and finding new ways to capture moments on film. Film is my solace and my creative outlet, and I want to continue to learn and grow in my knowledge of it! I’ve also been relying on the Darkroom to develop my images for 10 years now – so that’s worth celebrating with a fabulous new camera!

If I won one of these cameras, I’d finally be able to use a Helios 44 lens that I bought before doing the research to realize it can’t be adapted to any of my cameras. Some friends of mine recently got engaged and asked my girlfriend and me to take some pictures for them so having the Canon with a 40mm for normal shot AND the Helios for that sweet swirly bokeh would be a dream!

Beautiful cameras and beautiful photos!
Although I have beautiful digital cameras that shoot fantastic photos, I would love to own one of these canon Film cameras because sadly I’ve hit a bit of a creative block with my digital cameras, and have kind of lost the joy of shooting. I started with a 110 film camera when I was a little kid. My mom bought it for me and would purchase film for me to shoot with now and then. I think having a film camera would be very nostalgic, fun, and spark some creativity. Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos!

I have always loved shooting in film. But over the years Ive grown to love capturing all my favorite adventures and being able to frame them and giving them as gifts. I think my favorite part is the reaction I receive from my grandparents when they see what Ive captured. I think those are my favorite moments and just thankful my love for photography has not only been able to bring me joy, but those around me.

I’d loveeeeee to win one of these cameras for my wife. She’s had a bad string of film cameras that don’t work for her and I think something like this would get her back to shooting film. 🙂

I’d love to win one of these cameras to document the world around me, especially honing my street photography skills. The ability to utilize film to do so is a dying art and I’d love the opportunity to hone my skills and to push my understanding of photography!

I’d love to win one of these cameras so that I can continue taking photos of people I love. I’m a film hobbyist, and I take photos of my friends and family whenever I’m with them. It really touches all the people that I care about when I can show them how much I love them through beautifully shot photos on film. It boosts their confidence and helps them feel valued. My current camera is on its last leg and it would be amazing if I won one of these so I can continue to connect with the people I love the most through photography. 🙂

I’ve always wanted to shoot with a Canon Rebel. About 2 years ago I thrifted a Nikon N65 but the auto focus ended up being bad. I wanted a film slr with autofocus to take sharp reliable snaps while with family or traveling.

Winning one of these cameras would be great in helping my journey to learn more about shooting with film and developing my own images. There is something timeless about film and just seeing the photos that these cameras are capable of gives me hope that I can grow to that level. You can rest assured that whichever one you choose to send me will have a good home. Can’t wait to share the results with you.

I shot the very first black and white image with a Canon Rebel that was responsible for me become a serious photographer. 20 years later I miss that camera so much. I would use it to bring back the magic of where it all began.

I’d love to win this camera because I started my “photo journey” on an old digital rebel. I’d love to see how the film version functions with the lenses I’ve been able to collect over time. Would be a perfect union of my interest in film and my current set up.

I bought my Canon Rebel t6 a few years ago and just recently found a great passion for photography.
I would love to explore more from Canon and experiment with different cameras.
Having an everyday camera would be so cool to have and would allow me to capture more than I normally do!

Hello,
My name is Shanice, and I would like one win this camera because of my love for photography. With this camera it will give me options to work with something that I haven’t worked with before. There is something special about getting a new camera that makes you feel like a kid who’s opening presents on their birthday or Christmas. To me this is what it would like to win this camera. I continue to aspire to experience with my love for photography, learn to develop my own film, and shoot different things that I haven’t done before. There’s something classic, timeless and special about shooting film. The rare candid moments and quality is like no other. Therefore, it would be an honor and blessing to win one of your cameras.

I would love to win one of these cameras to compliment my DSLR (6D). Also, it would be a good replacement for my current Elan II e that turns off any time the mirror goes up to take a shot, no matter what batteries are in it.

I would love to win one of the Rebel cameras to start shooting with my Dad! My father has been a photographer for the last 30+ years, and I used to be his little helper. I would hold equipment while he shoots, bring him his notebook so he can take his photography notes. He even taught me how to develop film. I started a small side gig shooting a few flat lays with a camera I borrowed from my brother. I would like to explore photography and find my own style and what better way than to learn and connect with my Dad. I hope 🤞 I’m one of the lucky recipients!! Got my fingers and toes crossed! Cheers!

IG: tleeismee

I miss my old rebel 2000, I’m a bit click happy and the light meter is usually really good so it’s almost impossible to have a bad exposure with this camera.

I would love to win one of these cameras because I was recently quite unlucky with my last Cannon Rebel! I was caught in a massive t-storm and it was ruined, and when my last three rolls came back it turns out it has been broken since March!
I would love to replace that camera and continue some portrait photography. I’d like to spend some time photographing my grandparents this winter (I’m incredibly lucky to still have them around!). I’ll also be moving to Spain on a scholarship in January, and will be living in a city along a famous pilgrimage route called El Camino de Santiago. I’d love to have a trusty camera that I could use to shoot portraits of travelers that I meet along this route!

honestly, i just want to win this camera giveaway so i can say i’ve won a camera giveaway. also because this camera seems like a great camera that someone who doesn’t have extensive knowledge on cameras (other than taking a short photography class) can use. thanks for your consideration!

I would love to win one of these rebels because I would love to take it everywhere with me, I love Canon cameras, I carry my digital Canon SL1 everywhere with me. I would love to capture moments with one of these film cameras because I feel like film is timeless and being that I usually love taking photos out in nature they would look awesome in film.

I am love taking pictures of my grandchildren. They grow and change every minute of every day. I would take pictures of them in the outdoors, sleeping, cooking, playing and loving on each other. That is what I would take pictures of with a Canon Rebel.

I would love to try one of this rebels if i ever got my hands on one of them. For this is a rare chance (and analog cameras are so pricey these days) I would definitely put a good use to it. For years I’ve been planning on doing an exhibition of my photographs and trying to shoot using several cheap films. The theme I’d like to present is about my personal surrounding or people that very intimate to me and influenced the way I live these days. I would love to put my photographs taken with this camera for my upcoming exhibition. And you’re right, it’s not about the price of the camera, it’s the person and the passion behind those gear that actually matter.

This is an awesome giveaway! I’d like to document the process of moving into a new house with my family (including my toddler). I normally shoot an AE-1 but being able to use my EF lenses and have the autofocus to catch my kiddo running in the backyard would be excellent!

I’d be SO excited to win any of these cameras. The photos you posted look lovely, and they seem easier to get to know than most. I’m somewhat of a beginner when it comes to photography, and have made due by creating what I can with what I have (i.e. my phone camera), but I’m currently working on my third proper roll of 35mm! My partner is a photographer/videographer/cinematographer and has been guiding me a bit, but my own instincts aren’t too shabby 😉 I’d love to start getting more into portraiture as well as more abstract and textural photography, working more with light and patterns to create a certain mood that I can connect with some of my own illustrations and poetry, hopefully putting it all together in a small chapbook. Thanks so much!

I love traveling, and immerse myself in culture and history. Being able to capture moments with these cameras would be a great introduction for me to the art of professional photography

I absolutely love the concept of this contest and would love to win any of these cameras! I have a small collection of film cameras and my favorite by far are my cheaper ones, they make beautiful pictures and I bring them with me EVERYWHERE because they’re more portable. I’ve shot some of my favorite photos on a ricoh shot master I got on eBay for $9!
I would happily give one of these babies a good home and put it to good use on the streets of Brooklyn!
Cheers!

My wife and I have our first child due in December. I’d love to have one of these cameras on hand while I learn to see the world through new eyes.

My reasoning for wishing to win the Canon EOS Rebel X is that I am somewhat new to film photography, and am looking to acquire a 35mm camera because my first one broke. My first 35mm happened to be a Canon EOS Rebel and I did love that camera, and always felt comfortable using it. Would love to be able to experience that feeling again with one of these! Stay safe and keep shooting!

I had a Rebel T2 until it was stolen in a house robbery. If I win this camera I would photograph drive in theaters both open or closed across the country.

I would love to win this film camera as a gift for my daughter. She saved up for her film camera and it recently broke. She took that camera everywhere with her and was taking portraits of friends and landscape photography.

Id love the opportunity to win one of these cameras. I grew up learning photography with a Canon film SLR. I would use the camera to help teach my 2 middle school boys the art and science behind great photography. Thanks for the opportunity.

I recently bought my first film camera in the midst of quarantining at home a few months ago. It was a spectacular investment. I’ve been using my Canon DSLR for about the last year and a half and have learned a ton from it. Next on my list, I really want to learn and master film photography. It’s a whole different ball game than digital photography and that’s super exciting. I’m on my third roll of film ever and I’ve learned one of the better feelings in life is seeing your film after it’s been developed. With the Canon Rebel, I’ll continue working on expanding my film repertoire and capturing great memories. I’d bring it every where, taking portraits, street photos, nature photos, etc. The opportunities are endless!

I love analog photography! My collection of film cameras is over 20 in multiple formats yet I am lacking any Canon SLR camera. A big fan of Nikon; I would love to add the Canon experience to my lineup. I will use the Rebel as I explore more deeply in B&W and even try my hand as some street photography. I welcome the opportunity to get a new camera in my hands!

I want to photograph my students filn set lighting setups to show off both the crew and talent+lighting in the same shot.

Hello, I would love to win one of the Rebels. My first SLR was actually the Rebel 2000 that I purchased for a college photo class over 20 years ago. The camera was wonderful and sometimes wish I hadn’t sold it as I moved into digital over the past few decades. I now have children that are showing an interest in photography too and I would love to teach them on a film camera. I would them to experience the same feelings I had when I first started shooting film. The Rebel would be well loved and used in my family.

*This is my give away entry*
I’ve been shooting film for 2 years now and honestly is my way to scape from what life has become. I’m pregnant with my 1st baby and I cannot wait to teach him all the cool stuff that I’ve learned and teach him to appreciate film cameras and that he don’t need an expensive and new in the market camera to capture the essence of life. If I win one of this cameras I will be definitely shooting my son exploring life and learning as I explore the world of film and being a new mom as well. Thank you so much for the opportunity of winning one of this cameras.

Hey guys, I have been shooting rebel bodies for the last ten years and they are truly the best “cheap” bodies out there. Simple and easy to use and there are so many cheap lenses that work great with the rebel bodies. I would love to gety hands on one of these and shoot if for myself.

I have been dreaming of getting into film with a connon camera and just today was speaking to a friend about buying one, and then this magically showed up on my feed! I would love to take pictures around Hawaii where I live and adventure with my friends. To keep our memories in photography and to be able to share our stories through visuals.

I haven’t had a nice camera in so long and I’ve been looking to get one. I miss taking good pictures so much this would really be awesome to get back into photography.

I would really love to win a canon rebel, I have always had an interest in film photography but never really knew were to start. I have enjoyed following your page, not only for the beautiful photos that you developed but also for the videos you post on types of cameras and films. There is so much more then I thought there was. If I was to win one of these Canon Rebels I would enjoy taking photos outdoors and the landscapes, but mostly I would love to learn how to take portraits of my loved ones, there are moments and family gatherings that I would be so happy to capture on film. Thank you so much for the opportunity.
Ceci Sanchez

one of my first film cameras is the Canon rebel G. I still use it for all kinds of photos! I love taking portraits and street sceneries.
hope to win, good luck to everyone.
check out my ig @ilikeseep

Hello there,

I would love to win one of these cameras because I am a novice (very novice, I mean disposable cameras for fun, memorable pictures with friends) photographer and have been looking for the perfect starter camera/upgrade from a disposable camera. Also would be very fitting because my birthday is Sept. 21st. Anyways, if I don’t win I hope it lands in the hands of another kickass novice photographer that’s just getting their feet wet. Cheers!

Kelly

I’m very new to the film photography world. I’d love to win one of these cameras because I am trying to learn how to feed my soul through the medium of film. I know it sounds cheesy but I feel like there are elements of film photography that are as fleeting and random as the day to day. It’s exciting to learn and explore the different ways that different film types and camera types can produce a picture that’s unique and raw in our escalating digital landscape. I really want to sit with each roll of film and try to get the absolute most I can out of it. Why not start with a camera I haven’t gotten my hands on?

What can I say? I love shooting photographs whether film or digital but I prefer film because it makes me slow down and really think about the image I want to capture. It’s also fun waiting for the film to develop and thinking, “Did I get the shot?!” It’s sort of a nerve-wracking feeling mixed with excitement & nostalgia. I have two Canon DSLR Rebels and have a few lenses for them so it would be great to use those lenses on a film camera. And then I saw someone asking if these take cameras take multiple exposures shots and the answer was yes! Well, now I don’t just want one of these cameras but I NEED one of these cameras!

I would really love to have a Canon Rebel to take pictures of my growing family❤️ Pictures are a lifetime and tell stories that can be passed down through generations.

Wow! There’s so many comments! Always been a canon guy and a rebel fan. Would love to win one of these guys and have a solid 35mm camera in the lineup. An excellent combo with the lens choices as well!

I took my first photography class in high school with a Rebel G and loved it! Ended up getting the Digital Rebel XT as my first digital, and my addiction / hobby only grew! I shoot drift events with fairly high end gear, but still bust out the trusty Rebel XT for an event here or there! If I’d won, I’d end up doing the same with these, I’d love to do shoot an event in just film, force myself away from the high FPS and instant review and just shoot a few rolls!
Good luck everyone!

Back in 1992, I bought a Ricoh KR5 Super II from a shop in San Lorenzo, CA. It’s the only film camera I’ve used other than a Holga. I’ve taken it around the world, dropped and broke it in Israel, bought another one to cannibalize the parts and fix it, and I keep using it. I’ve thought of buying a Leica, but I want to maintain my ethic of photo first, gear second. One of these Rebels would give me better functionality, but help me remain true to myself: a scrappy, striving, lo-fi beholder who trusts his eye. Consider me interested. IG: @hulajulep

I would love to win a Canon Rebel! I’m currently disabled and unemployed and have found photography a helpful tool to get me through my days. I love photographing people and specialize in portraits. I have very limited income, so I am currently limited to my one camera and whatever I am able to borrow from friends. I’d love to be able to expand the ability of what I can do and continue creating art and showcasing people at their best!

I would love to win one of these because I don’t own an actual camera. I only have my phone camera, & my storage space on my phone is always full! While I don’t have training in photography, I have a deep appreciation for it & would love to add it as a hobby if I get more equipment. I enjoy taking photos of nature, my loved ones, mundane every day life, as well as my adventures & travels. IG is cloudbusting__

I use to adore taking pics & developing my own film back in high school but after graduating I couldn’t afford getting a film camera for myself so it’s been a forgotten art of mine unfortunately. It wasn’t until late last year I started back up but with disposables & fell back in love with it 🥰 I would be so grateful & blessed for the opportunity to get my little paws on one of these! Film is just absolutely timeless & I would love nothing more than to keep going ❤️

I am such a fan of Canon Rebel! Around the early 2010s, my aunt asked me if I wanted her old film camera, since I like to collect vintage cameras. My collection is more antique, ranging from 1920s-1950s, but I thought it looked really cool and I could use this more often to shoot everyday stuff. I fell in love with film all over. I used it to capture big events and random everyday moments. I wouldn’t shoot regularly, so it always à fun surprise of when I’d develop photos of the range of time between shots. It gives me a different type of joy than a digital camera does.

I would love to win one of these because I’m newer to the film game and still trying to find my style and camera. I love the images you have captured with them and other work people have created. With quarantine right now, going outside and capturing nature, places, people on film has been what’s keeping me going and inspiring me
@kyrstashae

I would love to shoot my friends and the hidden treasures of my city on one of these bad bois. I have a deep love from analogue photography and all the delicious details it brings to a shot.

I would love to win one of these Canon Rebel cameras because our family love adventures, from hiking, to geocaching, to traveling, we are always looking to spend time outdoors enjoying our beautiful country. I would love to document all of these priceless moments in our lives, and from the pictures it looks like this camera is truly a gem and perfect for my needs! Thank you for the chance!

I inherited a canon rebel from my mother. I took it with me around the south, photographing friends and woods and flowers and beach scenes. Now, the lens has a light leak, so a little white halo shows up in the corner of each photo, like a signature. With a rebel without a light leak, I would continue to capture nature and architecture and flowers and moments in time.

I would use this camera to teach my little brother how to shoot film, he is currently taking his first photography class over zoom so I dont know how much he is actually learning

I would love one of these so that I can document our daily life and begin an everyday documentation of my son and how much he grows and learns. I have not been able to afford a digital camera so I am capturing everything with my phone or with my film cameras but struggle to be able to afford getting the film developed so I would love to have a camera that I can document and upload to see how my family grows, changes and adapts everyday. Thank you!

*Giveaway entry*

I grew up not having any formal education on cameras and film, so I’m starting my education now! My parents both took amazing film photos and shared them with me and I want to be able to do the same. I hope to build a camera collection, and one of these cameras, or all, would help jumpstart that!

I’d love to win one of these cameras! I just started my own vintage shop and would photograph my adventures! Plus my camping adventures in the southern states!

I would love to have a rebel to create stories. I love shooting outside and people I don’t know and just imagine who they might be.
I believe photography has the power of telling anything you want them to tell… it’s like the camera is your pen and the world your paper for you to write whatever you feel (maybe not in that order i think my metaphor is a little off but you got it :p). And I’d love to capture all these infinity possibilities out there!

Man, I would love to win one of your cameras.
My girlfriend always wanted to start a vlogging youtube channel and make sick edits with great camera quality but we are in a tough situation and can t afford one right now.
This would mean the world for her

I’d love to get my hands on one to try out. I recently broke my canonete ql7 and have been looking for a replacement. I love trying all types of cameras

The camera that got me into photography was the Canon Rebel T1i (DSLR); it has mobilized me to discover my affinity for photography and appreciating the little things in life. Through all these years, it has accompanied on many trips— even the trips where I’m exploring my own city.

Recently, I’ve been wanting to expand my horizon into film photography; I find it beautiful that there are so many other ways you can manipulate a photograph shooting manual and film! If I won, I would love to use the 40mm to capture portraits, people in their natural states, and perhaps some food, as I found a love for cooking during quarantine!

I want to win one of these cameras so that I can give my son the same satisfaction that I get from flipping through old photo books full of prints of me as a kid growing up. I don’t know if it’s the mothball smell or the feel of the pages or just the act of slowing down and physically looking at each print, but it’s something about it that just really makes me all mushy inside. I can’t imagine how different the world is gonna be when he’s my age, but I have a certain hunch that he’s really gonna love having something tactile and tangible that he will be able to connect with and share with his family. It’s been said a bunch of times here in these comments, but you can’t overestimate the power of photos and prints when it comes to nostalgia and sentimentality. It’s just unbeatable, and I want nothing but the best for my son.

I would love to take them to my next little Denmark trip. I’m traveling from Germany and such an compact and practical camera would be the perfect Dokument you’re life camera for me and my girlfriend. I’m finally coming back to an small island ( it’s called kegnæs) we’re I used to spend most of my childhood.this places is filled with nostalgia and childhood memories and I can’t wait to come back 14 years later.
Have a nice weekend everyone and cheers from Germany!
Sebastian 🙂

I’d love to win the rebel x, if I won I would use it to shoot more everyday life photos because I feel like not shooting often enough has led me to miss some of the most memorable moments that I wanted to hold on to. I would love something that would get me back out and shooting since I lost a lot of photography motivation due to depression and health issues that have led me to being unemployed.

I want to ge this camera because I’m really interested in film photography and never tried a canon analog camera. I would photograph architecture and cars with this.

I would love to use these cameras in my self portraiture work. I would love the option to shoot with film, I just need the camera to do so (especially with something that has a self timer feature). I would love to also document any travels, landscapes look best on film.

I would like to win one of these cameras.. But not for myself.. I’d want to give it to an autistic buddy of mine who has an interest in photography but doesn’t have a DSLR yet.
Always looking at my gear.. I being on the spectrum myself can relate.
Would be nice to brighten up someone’s day.

I would love the chance to win this because I will forever and always prefer to be the one behind the camera. Taking beautiful candids of people I love is one of my favorite things.

I’d use one of these to better my street photography. I also want to get into landscape photography and could use one of these cameras as my starter.

I love shooting film, I used to have one of the cheaper yashica model but it just died on me and it’s no longer functional. Just the feeling of shooting film is so satisfying, the process of getting it developed and getting the results is amazing. Granted it won’t always come out perfect, but the process of it all just makes it extremely fun. But with my camera being dysfunctional, I haven’t been able to experience that at all lately. It’d be really cool if I were to receive the camera, I would definitely appreciate it and put it to use and have fun with it.

I would love to win one of those cameras because i have always wanted to get into photography but never had the money so i can get one. I hve take alot of pictures with mobile phone and one of these camera can take my photography skills to another level. I hope i will win it…

I want to be able to take pictures of true beauty. As a makeup artist for decades I work with pretty people often but sometimes I’m lucky to work with a present beauty. The true beauty that comes from fighting to be yourself. I want to share pictures of them to encourage more women to strive to be their own unique beauty instead of settling for pretty.

I’m a young film Photographer from South Africa and one of these rebels would be a really amazing tool to further my craft and help me to both work for more people and begin to train more film photographers in my area.

The canon EOS rebel G was the first film camera I ever bought. Ever since it was stolen, I’ve been wanting to get back to the “electronic slr” type of systems but haven’t really had the time or money. I would love to go out to shoot some landscapes with the 40mm combo, for sure!

Hi, I’m a student photographer and was recently introduced to film photography and working in the darkroom. It was a beautiful experience for me and due to the lockdown I’m not able to access the darkroom and it sad. I have used a couple of Nikon SLRs from the institution department for my academic projects but I want to own a camera now that I’m so interested in shooting film. Although, being a student I cannot afford to buy an expensive SLR. So I’m always on the lookout for good cheap SLRs which are underrated. Canon Rebel is one of them! I would love have this camera and would love to work on my upcoming projects using this very compact, simple but good camera.

I would love to win one of these Rebels. Were I to win, I would take mine to Italy sometime in the relatively near future when it is safe enough to travel and document my second home town of Florence. My birthday is the 22nd, so winning would be a great gift this year. Fingers crossed.

Photography is my passion and I have shot many photos from around the US and Europe-the last camera I bought was from a flea market in Paris a couple of years ago. I’ve always wanted a Canon Rebel, so I might as well go old school, it would be fun to shoot a sunrise from my coastal hometown with one of these.

i really want to win the rebel x to further my knowledge with film photography. i only started late last year though have experience a bit when i was younger with my dads camera which i own now. i feel like 2020 has robbed me some time to further learning the art of film photography coz of the pandemic but i am hoping to use this to learn further.

I would like to win one of these cameras because earlier this year my favorite film camera broke. I haven’t shot any film in a while because of it. If I were to win one of these cameras I would love to go back to taking portraits of my friends and also practice some more street photography. I could also definitely use some refreshing after the long break I’ve taken.

(i forgot to include my instagram profile under ‘website’ in my previous comment)

I love documenting my children and always am flipping between my manual slr and my point & shoot. It sounds amazing having it in one package and the array of lenses at my disposal!

Hello! I am a beginner in film photography. I have a Pentax me super, cannon ae 1, cannon lx snappy, and a Kodak advantix point and shoot. The cannon is my fav! I recently came across this camera and fell inlove with just how easy and cheaper it was but also I’ve seen some great images achieved on these cameras. I chatted with a friend and was about to purchase on eBay and seen this post and was like yessss the camera Gods are speaking and I am meant to win!!! This would be my go to camera. Practice makes perfect and I feel like we all need that one camera that we can just grab and take anywhere. This would be it for me! Im into street photography, real and raw images, anything that makes you feel nostalgic. I’d probably dabble in some portraits with this camera. Thanks for the opportunity!!

I would be infinitely grateful to win this set up. Both cameras I have been using years decided to break on me within a week apart. I was working with a petri v from my dad who passed away some years ago. Winning this would mean to the world to me because I can continue my work on an installation of portraits of people throughout my beautiful city. Birmingham, AL. I haven’t known good luck in quite awhile so I hope I hope I hope!

I’m entering to win one of these Rebels to essentially have a decent travel camera once we are able to do so. I’m always a little nervous traveling with my current film setup so it would be awesome to have a camera that delivers great results but if something were to happen on the road it wouldn’t hurt the wallet or heart as bad. Thanks!

you can shoot with anything you have. because i think it’s all about your composition, the story the feeling that your work gives. and if you have this cheap gear set up, it doesn’t mean it’s incapable, it’s up to you to make the most of it and be creative. this will be a great gear to have 🙂

I would love to have the opportunity to expand my photography skills with one of these amazing camera! Ive been a long time supporter of thedarkroom I trust them with all my film and am extremely pleased with your service!

Hi!

I would use the Rebel to document my everyday life through my eyes; my POV. Whether that’s shots of my pets & loved ones, on my way to work, orrrr when I’m driving around in my car. Personally, I always go for close-ups of anything! I live in the City of Los Angeles, so living in this city can be unpredictable & full of many wonders that are most def worth capturing. I love using film cameras because unlike digital, you must wait to see your shots & they’re such a surprise for me that I always look forward to!

I’d love to win the rebels as i already have some EF mount glass i can use with these, and I’d use it to photograph migrated workers and their families across india for a book i wish to compile and publish on people displaced from their homeland for survival.

Photography has always been an interest of mine, but it has become my true hobby when I bought my Nikkormat Ft3 2 years ago. I decided starting photography with a manual slr was the best way to learn the basics of lighting and camera setting. I love the patience requires when shooting film and the stakes when you don’t want to waste a frame on your expensive roll of film. As a junior in college I hope to continue growing my skills for myself. This is not apart of my job nor do I formally share my pictures with many other people, but I would love this camera to further develop my skills and have a more everyday type of camera set up. I’m just entering the film community on Instagram and having this camera would all me to continue to experiment in a way that I can’t with my Nikkormat.

So far I’ve been using cannon ae1. I never thought film photography can be as much fun until I took a college class. And wow! Several years later I Am working on building my own darkroom. How exciting is that?! As a dog mom they are probably what you can see the most in my pictures.

I really want to win one of these cameras because since quarantine started I really got into film photography. Growing up my dad did film photography and essentially made my entire childhood a candid photoshoot. I always love seeing the way he captured those moments in a way that made it look almost unreal but completely real at the same time (if that makes any sense) I have been really trying to improve my skills and I want to start working with other cameras, since I’m currently working with my dad’s old one, but finding working ones that are gonna break my college student budget isn’t always the easiest thing to do. I’ve been sending all my film to you guys since I started with film and would love to be able to send you guys film from those of these cameras and tell you how it all went!! I currently do a lot of nature/life shoots but also I dabble in portraits.

I would love to win one of these cameras. My last film camera has given up the ghost and I have film just begging to be used again.

I would love to win one of these cameras so I could take pictures, of course! I love to document my life on my private blog, and I’m sure I’ll be glad I did when I’m older. I love taking pictures of nature and my friends and family.

When I was a kid I was terrible at math. Like TERRIBLE. The numbers just got muddled in my head and I couldn’t understand the processes that were involved in solving an equation. Enter 8th grade, I’m going terrible and my dad makes me an offer. If I pass he’ll buy me a camera.

At that time my family only used disposable film cameras, and my cousin had just received a Canon Rebel XS. It wasn’t much at the time either, but for a kid earning a $5 allowance, it’s a lot. Somehow, and to this day I still don’t know, I managed to earn a B+ in math. I took my dad up on his promise and he promised me once he saw the report card he’ll live up to the deal.

Unfortunately, he was laid off shortly after and the promise of receiving a camera vanished. Food and shelter for his family became the priority. I never received the camera and to be honest I have no idea what I would have taken pictures of at the time. Flash forward years later and I have deep love of film cameras. Mainly it’s the nostalgia, the ceremonious routine of film, and using cameras that were made to last. As I enter my 30th year I would love to use the camera I wanted as a teenager to document my life. The person I’ve become and the individuals I’ve chosen to surround myself with.

I just started getting into Analog and film photography a few months ago and have been getting my cameras and film from ebay and thrift stores! A canon rebel was my first camera ever (DSLR of course) so not only would this be a massive upgrade from my current film camera (a box camera) and allow to me learn what all those F-stops are about, it would be a nice complete circle of my camera journey.
I have really enjoyed using film to document staying at home and finding unique ways to photograph my neighborhood and have physical memories once again.

Hey!

I would love to win one of these Canons! I’ve always been a fan of a camera that does the thinking for me. Allows me to concentrate more on what I’m aiming it at. If I were to win one, I believe I would want to start a new photo project and try and use that camera only to photograph it. I’ve really wanted to do some kind of night series, and that would be a great set-up for it! Thanks guys!

I would love to win one of those cameras because I am a digital editorial photographer and I would LOVE to learn film. I have an automatic film camera I use to document memories (days at the lake, etc) but I think it would be so cool to develop the skill and start using it for editorial stuff. I love being creative and I think film would ad a whole new realm of creativity for me!

Stepping outside in 2020 is a much different experience than it was in 2019. I use film to capture the energy of the time, moment, place; it is unparalleled to digital. With film, I record every scent, breeze, change in light, temperature…it’s not just recording what I see, but what I feel. I would love to have these cameras to expand my world of film photography, and to open my mind to all the possibilities film has to offer in recording my world.

I would love to add this camera to my collection and also use it for my film zine book I’ve started. I found my fascination with film just a year ago. Every since then I’ve had my eyes glued to different tutorials learning manual film camera. This Canon would be greet to document my trips, shoot portraits and editorials with and also my city.

Hi, my name is Patrick Lau and I am from Denver, Colorado. As a recent college graduate I have learned all too well that life goes by too fast, and capturing moments in film photographs is a beautiful way of not letting those moments escape you. I love photographing landscapes and camping/ lifestyle content. Ultimately, there is beauty in everything, and if you don’t see it, maybe a change in perspective can change your mind

My husband and I are planning to celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary by doing a lower 48 road trip. This is where we will drive through every state in the continental US. We will also be incorporating Montreal as we live in N.H. and really want to see it. I would love to be able to shoot some of the most beautiful images along the way with a cheap but efficient camera to preserve our memories until our dying days! The last time we did a road trip it was a rushed two week trip with the Tetons as our ultimate destination for a friends wedding. We are planning on taking a month off from our jobs and will explore all America has to offer for views, scenery and point of interest. Neither my husband nor myself are all that trained with proper camera use but we get by. I will be taking a course from a friend who has had his photos featured in natgeo so I am hoping I will get some amazing images. Thanks for doing this contest. Please pick me 🙂

I forgot to add my ig url from earlier but this is what I said “ I love shooting film, I used to have one of the cheaper yashica model but it just died on me and it’s no longer functional. Just the feeling of shooting film is so satisfying, the process of getting it developed and getting the results is amazing. Granted it won’t always come out perfect, but the process of it all just makes it extremely fun. But with my camera being dysfunctional, I haven’t been able to experience that at all lately. It’d be really cool if I were to receive the camera, I would definitely appreciate it and put it to use and have fun with it.” hoping this isn’t too much of a problem, I wasn’t too sure how to fix it so I’m doing it this way.

I love to replace my first film camera. My first camera was a canon Eos Rebel X S, I got it around 10 to 12 years ago when I turned 18. I decorated my camera with band stickers and a sticker that says hello my name is canon and my preferred pronoun is blooop!!! I didn’t know the exact sound that it made when I took a photo. But, I have took photos of bands such as Orgy, Demonboy, The romantics, aesthetic perfection and I believe I took it to my life with the thrill kill kult. Besides the industrial bands I listed, it took an oral history of abandon buildings and street artists as well as ordinary people. Some of which can be found on my instagram @gotharts. My camera makes weird noises, somehow doesn’t move the shutter and a part of me realizes that this camera lived an extremely long and extremely vivid and wild life. I remember the day I bough it from a camera store who sold it to me for 15.00 dollars with a lens and said film is dead. I told him to f*ck off and walk out of the store with this and delta 3200 and i shot my first roll at a club where my friends band was performing. The club was dark and the photos were ghostly and surreal.

If I was choosen to win one of these cameras I would definitely take it to clubs and document alternatives life styles of goth, indie and industrial bands as well as everyday life.

My art can be found on Instagram: @gotharts

This article is exactly it! I’ve been looking for the right camera to jump in and start taking imperfectly perfect film shots! I would definitely put one of those rebel’s to good use!!!

I’ve been really into shooting film, but I’ve only been using disposable and I realize that it’s not really good for the environment. I think that getting this would be really great because it would lessen any material waste that I’ve been contributing in the past. I would definitely put it to use and make lots of great memories shooting pictures with my friends!

I’ve been interested in photography since I was a freshman in high school (current senior in college) but really got into it when I started shooting with my boyfriend two years ago! My first experience with photography was taking disposable cameras to camp as a kid, and I’ve loved working with film ever since! I just started my first college photography class this semester and am getting to learn a lot about film and digital work, techniques, and ways to mix up my craft! Would love to win one of these and give it a great home!

I’ve always wanted a good camera to document our journey. me and service dog. I”ve always loved photography and want to be able to take better pictures.
-cas.and.kye

I have just begun my film journey by starting with disposable cameras! it’s been lots of fun but I think I’m finally ready for a real film camera! I love to take photos of my family and my beautiful little nieces. I also like to go around my town and take photos, it’s very historical. I even just started my own film Instagram.

I would love one of these camera, they look like a blast to shoot with ! I have been look for a cheap camera to play with for awhile and I think this would be perfect. I can’t wait to play with all kinds of film. I moved out of state a year ago and could only bring some of my cameras. This would really help right now!

I would love to win one of these cameras because I would put it to good use! The rebel was my first camera back in the day learning how to shoot film. Since then, I’ve been on a journey of cameras but lately I can only think of my wild happy days with a good old Rebel and I want to get back into it! Thanks for this fun contest. Fingers crossed!

My first camera I ever learned how to use was my dads 35mm Canon rebel and I’ve been in love with photography ever since! Im so thankful for him to teaching me and ill always have a soft spot in my heart for these cameras! Its been years since I’ve owned one and would love to shoot on one again!

I would love to win one of the canon rebels, i used a canon rebel T3I back in highschool that i borrowed from a friend and i sincerely loved it. At the moment my favorite film cameras (my Pentax k1000 and Minolta Hi-Matic AF2) have been experiencing some issues lately. I have a family trip coming up where I’m going to help secretly photograph my own sisters engagement proposal (that she doesn’t know about yet) and nephews first birthday party and would absolutely be honored to take those photos with a camera i know i can trust to get the photos at the end of the day! I will of course still be shooting some of it on my Minolta despite its so lines because I’m loyal to it and i love the way it comes out anyhow, but having one of these cameras would really help me out and help ensure some beautiful photos for my sister and my family to cherish for years to come!!

I would love a canon rebel camera! I own one already and it has been the impetus for my foray into film. I absolutely love how light and easy to use it is, but I love even more how beautiful the images are that I create with it!
I have some b/w film stock I’ve been wanting to shoot, but as I only have the one camera, I hesitate to load it in case I want color instead. Living in Utah, I have been photographing the mountains here non-stop and am so excited to see the fall colors popping up. I’m headed on a little getaway into the mountains in a couple weeks and would love to take a b/w loaded film camera with me!

Truly an important post! My old old Canon Rebel (a hand-me-down from my mom) was always the camera I took with me traveling overseas. Not only did its low price point help me feel comfortable taking it along on some of the crazier trips, but its plastic body, AF & decent built-in flash features made it convenient to quickly capture some of my favorite photos to this day! I would love to have a newer model, as mine has definitely felt the love over the years!

I think it’s really cool you’re giving away these cameras. This is a great way for people to get back into a older media. I would love to win one of these because I am one of those people who recently got into film. I have been using a Canon Ae-1 program because I’m just just starting out and not too comfortable choosing my own aperture and shutter speed yet. You mentioned these cameras are also great for beginners and that fact that it includes a flash could really help me expand the settings I can take photos in. Thank you.

i would love the opportunity to photograph with one of these cameras. i have produced a lot of portraiture work throughout my undergrad and post grad work but would love to explore self portraiture. i have never really dabbled into self portraiture and these rebels would enhance my next series greatly!

@misael_bsc

I would love to win one of these camera! I’m a highschool student who is taking photography and found a love for film just recently. I would use this camera to get more experienced with film and to get better at photography overall. Thank you for this amazing opportunity!

I would love to win one of these guys to shoot street photography here in Miami, FL. I have a digital Canon and two film Canon cameras that I love. Adding one of these to my collection would be fantastic! I love their portability and the results you can get from them.

Cheers!

I have two kids so I would use the camera to continue documenting their childhood. I’m not a trained photographer, I am more or less self taught but a few years ago I purchased an Olympus XA because I had read they were easy point and shoot cameras. From there I upgraded to a an OM-2. Most recently I received a Minolta Maxxum 5 and have been loving how user friendly it is. I have followed your videos on these cameras and would love to use something so “foolproof.”

I am interested in winning one of these “cheap” cameras because as a newer hobby photographer it would be an amazing addition to my Sony a6000. I have found a passion for taking photos of friends, architecture and products. This would also challenge me to learn how to shoot film, which will help me improve my overall photography skills. I also have a two month old and I would love to capture moments with film to give it an old school vibe.

Thank you Dark Room Lab for an awesome giveaway.

Gabriel S.

Currently all I use is a Pentax k1000, and it’s been really nice to be able to learn how to shoot effectively in manual, but it would be so nice to have a camera where I could take advantage of the priority modes and faster shutter because there are so many candid shots that I’ve missed due to the shortcomings of my camera. First film I would use would probably be lomochrome metropolis.

I’d like to join the giveaway because my camera is broken and can’t be fixed. I most enjoy photographing the people I love, they are my muses.

My mom is big on documenting and always had a camcorder or film camera recording even the littlest things. She had these type of canon eos cameras when I was growing up. I’d love to have one because it’d be like a full circle because she was the reason I got into film in the first place and I can document my own life with it. We’re also planning on doing a coastal road trip soon so it would be nice to test it out then!

I’m a graduate student working on community recovery post-wildfires– on the off chance that I got selected, I would love to use a camera to document the story of communities –and people– who are in the process of rebuilding their lives and bouncing back from some of the worst fires ever recorded here in California. I think that it would be a good way for me to both record the experience and to give back in the way of a physical film print of them/their loved ones, something that would help them to begin the recovery process and help the people who lost cherished photos a place to begin.

Many thanks for the good work you guys do!

I would love to win the eos rebel t2. I absolutely love photography and have always wanted a film camera. I love photographing sports, nature, a some portraits. I would love to use this camera with my Canon 70-200 2.8 and the 40 2.8. I am also currently taking photography in high school, and this camera could be useful in advancing my skills in photography. Thanks!

It would be lovely to win this contest so that I could give the camera to my wonderful husband. He loves film photography and canon cameras and everyone deserves a little joy right now.

Two of my SLR’s are broken. Thus broke my heart too because I’d always go out and shoot my city and my friends. I’ve always loved film and have been shooting film for about 12 years now. So if I win you better believe I’ll use one of these Rebels to its fullest potential. I’m sure they’re a dream to shoot with.

Hey 😊 when I think about getting this camera I think about my grandma. I’m an Argentine/American living in Ohio since 2014. I planned to visit my grandma this year in April in Argentina and everything was cancelled because of COVID.
My grandma turned 90 this year and there was no celebration, just my mom and uncle and a small cake. Her birthday are usually the biggest event of the year but not this year, freaking COVID 😕. My mom took a few shots with her phone and that was it. So I think she needs a photoshoot right away. I’m hopefully traveling next year and I would love to do it myself with this camera. Her name is Luisa and she’s the cutest grandma, super sassy and sweet.
I hope I can win this and share some of her with this amazing community.

Thanks!

I would like to get a camera to give it to one of my friends as a gift. She is an amazing photographer and I think she would appreciate a new camera.

I would feel so blessed to win this giveaway. I have been trying to approach photography in new and interesting ways, and a new setup would allow for me to be more diverse in my creativity. I plan to photograph people from all walks of life, highlighting socioeconomic struggles, avant-garde expressions of emotions, and landscapes of the Midwest.

I’ve been a big fan of these types of cameras, my first being the Nikon F80. If I were to win this camera I would use it to continue documenting the protests and fights for justice here in the state of Wisconsin. With it being such a turbulent year the best way for me to deal with the stress and uncertainty has been through documenting not only what I have been going through but what the state and the rest of the country has been going through as well

I have lost a lot of people close to me in the last year and I have not been shooting. I just kind of lost interest in things that make me happy. I want to get back to doing the things I love and I was considering buying a film camera because I miss shooting film and I only have a medium format at the moment. I am seeing this camera a lot on multiple different platforms and I love the quality of images I see coming out of it. Super cool that you’re giving one away. Thanks for being awesome- darkroom labs rocks 💛

As pretty much everyone these days, I’ve been shooting 100% of the time with my cell phone, which, given its limitations, has a really nice camera, and all the apps we can use to edit the photos and reach fine results. But, thinking in retrospect, last time I’ve shot actual film was back in 2002, when I used to have a home lab to develop and enlarge b&w film, shot with a good, old Canon EOS something I can’t remember because I lost the camera at some point. With the revival of film and the romantic side of it, it seems like I’ll have such a good time taking pictures from Porto, Portugal using the camera. Thanks for the opportunity given by you with this giveaway, and let’s hope for the best!

My son’s senior portraits. I don’t see the point in paying a ridiculous amount for professional photos when I can do them myself and print them through your services.

I’d like to win this camera because I wish to get into film photography and I’d love to begin my journey with this camera! I love the quality of the images and I will use the camera to the best of my abilities to improve my photography skills and document things I‘d like to keep in memory 🙂

Hi! This is an awesome
Post. I’d love to win this camera because I love cheap cameras! I currently have bought all of my cameras from EBay or Goodwill and think the value outranks any camera you can’t afford. It’s about love and inspiration!

Winning one of these Canon Rebels would give me the opportunity to document my elderly mom during the remainder of this pandemic plus my new grandson whom I get to see once in awhile. I also would like to keep practicing my double exposures.

Reply

ever since being gifted my first and only film camera, a pentax k1000, my passion for photography has grown into my most fulfilling past time. I’d love to practice my skills on a better setup, but I’ll probably never be able to afford one. winning one of these would change my life – and my work – for the better.

Fantastic giveaway right here! I’m glad you guys are highlighting the beauty of cheap film cameras, they can go a long way. I am moving to New York this weekend and I want to capture the current city life through film. New York City has drastically changed in the last six months, between the virus and the protests, it’s a whole new city. I want to capture those stories in every borough and bring those small faces to a bigger platform. I love New York and the people who live there and I would be thrilled to capture them on one of these magnificent Canons. I have been stockpiling expired rolls of 35mm Portra and Ektachrome along with some various black and white stocks and I’m ready to shoot NYC in a new fantastic light.

📸📸📸 DEAR DARKROOM,
Hi !! My name is Emily J & I am an aspiring photographer looking to enhance my hobby. I am 16 years old and live 15 minutes from the city of Chicago. I would love to capture some of the diverse environments in the city along with all of the protests. I would be ecstatic to receive one of the cameras because I am so curious as to what it has to offer. I love experimenting with new cameras, different exposures, ISO, etc. Currently I have a Canon Rebel T6… I bought this with my own money about 3 years ago and have used the crap out of it ever since I’ve had it. I have 2 lenses (18-55mm & 75-300mm) so it’s pretty basic. I took a photography class last summer at my high school & grew my knowledge of cameras. I am currently working on building a website but I feel like I don’t have enough quality images just yet. The rebel T2 would help w this. I would love to explore the world of film as i constantly see all of your guys insta posts. My brother does film photography and I have always wanted a film camera like his. However, they are all so expensive. I work an 11$/hour job and can barely afford to pay for my gas. Let alone pay for a new camera 🙁
Thank you so so much you guys are such an inspiration 📸📸📸
Emily <3

I was attempting to cross (what looked like) a small river. Ended up fully submerged in the river with my favorite Canon AE-1 Program. Ruining the camera was a bummer. Been looking for another Slr since the day. I’d love to win one of these. I’ve learned my lesson and wouldn’t try to cross a river with it.

I’m a believer in the ideas that you don’t need an expensive camera to take great photos. Id love to have a Rebel too just carry as an everyday street camera and prove it.

This looks fantastic for so many reasons!! Let’s see what would I use it for? Um it would be my adventure camera. I love the idea of having a auto focus on film camera, the manual film I have makes for some happy accidents but I take my photos with me on walks with my family so I’d like to know I’m nailing the focus most of the time chasing after the kiddos. I love the idea of double exposure, my fancy sony can’t do that and to be able to do it outside of photoshop is like a dream come true (I’m so bad at photoshop so I avoid attempting creating double exposures in PS). I would also be excited to use my EF 28mm lens!! I kept it around after I replace my camera (when the son decided it was a pool toy). It was the first lens I bought and can’t bare to part with it, so to be able to use it again would make my heart sing. As far as what I would want, eh I’m not sure lol. do any of them have a timer? I would looove to be able to take a self portrait with a film camera without it being a reflection or shadow.

Having recently joined the military, I know I’ll be exploring different areas of our country and then other countries as well. Documenting my experiences with a film camera, a more compact one than what I own, will be so beneficial for creating a photo album or sharing my experiences with everyone else. Whether that’s my children or my friends back home on IG.

I want to win one of these cameras because I want to leave a bit of the digital world behind. I want to spend time in nature and a camera to capture things that really matter and get back to basics. 🖤

These are all so great – practical and with an amazing quality. One of these would be the perfect camera for me to document more of the grassroots drifting scene, action shots of the cars and fun shots of all the people involved, showing what it takes to be in this lifestyle. Considering most of the cars are japanese from the 90s and early 00s,the film culture is sooo valuable and appreciated. It would be the perfect tool to the job! <3

As a dabbler in photography, I have become the unofficial official photographer of my family. My family knows they can count on me for pics at family occasions and get togethers. I love taking pictures even though I will always be at the amatuer level in my ability level because of the energy and focus my career requires, I love photography!

It’s so exciting to be part of film/photo community. Currently I have the Pentax ME special edition, and I love it. Im racking up my rolls to eventually send in!! I would love to win one of these cameras to give to my mom. Since I found a love in film photography, that sparked an interest in just the everyday beauty, I feel like it could rekindle some kind of happiness for her too. She lives in Hawaii, so I feel like this would be a perfect opportunity to help her find She loves something for herself.

I want to win one of these cameras because I want to leave a bit of the digital world behind. I want to spend time in nature with a camera to capture the things that really matter and get back to basics. 🖤

I would love to win one of these cameras! I’m a highschool student who is taking photography and found a love for film just recently. I would use this camera to get more experienced with film and to get better at photography overall. Thank you for this amazing opportunity!

I would love to have a second film camera so I could always have one camera loaded with black and white and one camera with color!

I would get so much use out of this camera. I recently got into photography during quarantine and in school I just started my elective photography and photoshop class. I had to borrow a used camera from my godmother but I would really love to have one of my own. I really want to pursue photography in the future and I am learning so much everyday! I love taking portrait and landscape shots. In the future I would love the opportunity to do music and concert photography !! 🙂

I would love to use this lightweight camera to shoot some film portraits / street photography! I live in Detroit so there’s lots to document here! I’m an amateur photographer who’s decided to turn photography into a career. I’m a student on a budget and study at College for Creative Studies and this would enable me to learn more about film – I have loads of Etkar100 / Kodak Gold film I would love to take out of my fridge and put to use 🙂

Thanks for doing this contest!

My name is Amanda and for the first time in my life, I have never felt more confident about what it is I wanted to do as a career. Photography is the ultimate passion. I am brand new to the world of photography but not brand new to the world of the creative arts. I have been around family and friends who have inspired me in many ways whether that was movies, music, photos, paintings, drawings, cosmetics, creation, gaming and the list can go on. I think it started with my dad being into movies and shows. I didn’t understand why I was so drawn to it at first. Music was another huge one. I loved merging the two. The perfect song for the perfect moment. Where a song fits an image, or a memory or a video. Color played a huge part too. Lighting and diffusion, brightness and darkness, shadow and bokehs. I loved it all. From a wedding portrait to a photo of food I couldn’t help but be drawn to this world. I want to learn more. I want to dive right into this world. My dream would be to do BTS photography for films and music videos or be on tour with an artist and provide them with the best photos of their life. I want to make them happy and proud and that will fill me with such happiness. That would be my purpose on this earth and I will thrive knowing I can just snap the perfect moments and they can look back on it and think, yes I remember this and it was such an amazing day and such an amazing capture. I would do everything in my power to utilize any camera whether that’s my phone or an expensive DSLR or mirrorless camera. I would love to look for a cute, cheap 35mm to play with as well. This canon you are giving away would be such a wonderful gift to push me to my dreams. I have never felt so sure this is what I needed to do in my life. Thank you for creating such an amazing blog and giving back to aspiring photographers such as myself.

Looks like interesting little setup, something to mix things up from my manual focus camera 🤔 even my girlfriend would enjoy it as she is only beginner in photography, canon glass is one of the best, and having any camera to take advantage of it is always a benefit, especially package this small, so yes, I would definitely like to have a chance to shoot with one of those. 👌🎞

I grew up using film which sparked my love for photography. With ever growing technology, I’ve recently gotten back into film as nothing seems to compare. True beautiful photographs meet science. Amazing! Film should be treasured forever.

I would love to have this camera. My first digital camera was a Rebel. I want to have this camera do to that I have many lenses for the camera also. This would be a huge addition to my everyday carry. I love to shoot landscape love to do that as well I always love to document one thing a day it’s kinda what has been pushing me to be creative everyday. This is what this camera would mostly be used for to document my everyday that one picture a day camera! Thank you for doing this you guys are amazing and love what you do for the community!

I have so much still to learn as a film photographer! I have been using my dad’s 1980 Asahi Pentax SP1000 since 2013 and have essentially taught myself everything on it. the light meter is broken so every shot is a guess and it’s been so fun! I’ve been wanted to experiment with another camera but I really don’t have the budget right now. something easy and simple, but also something that doesn’t need too much fixing up! I did my first ever model photo shoot about a month ago and did 4 rolls… and they came back blank. I love my Pentax but it is definitely old and needs to be repaired! If I won one of these rebels I would shoot the incredible 4 seasons and the greenery around my amazing town of Bend, Oregon – and also move into more creative photography and maybe take a stab at photographing real human models again! I take tons of pictures of my dog, and any time I travel, I go way out of my comfort zone to capture amazing film (as long as my abilities allow it). Thanks for the consideration! I love the Darkroom Lab!

I had a Rebel XS and used it extensively on a Nov 1998 trip to Vietnam when we adopted our then 8-month old son. I sold it to fund my update from Canon EOS film to DSLR. Winning this would be like meeting an old friend and catching up on what has happened over the years! The pancake lens is something I’ve been wanting to try for some time.

Coming off from months of confinement, I would love to shoot with any of these cameras how people has been forever changed after this, rather traumatic event. Did life just hit a pause button and life returned back to normal? Are people more appreciative of the tiny moments that make life worthy? What changed from the landscape? What was there that isn’t now? What is there that wasn’t?

This would be the perfect semi-pocketable combo for my trip to Babcock State Park and Blackwater Falls State Park in WV next month. My goal is to capture some amazing fall foliage and waterfall shots…

I would like to win this camera to continue my life saving hobby of film photography. I fell in love with film while in college and would use it to travel. However, since Covid hit I’m relying more and more on my photography hobby to get me through. I’m a social worker and this pandemic has been exhausting to say the least, but it’s made me look inward and photograph things just I had forgotten to appreciate. I have a few photo series in mind that I would photograph; my mom being a caregiver to my ailing grandfather, my sister who has finally achieved independence and moved into her own place, my muslim husband praying. There are stories that need to be told. Digital takes away the mindfulness of film because I’m constantly insecure. With film, i just point and shoot and feel like a kid on Christmas morning when the film gets developed. I’d like a camera that is small (I have tiny hands), and easy and fun to use, without all the gravitas and baggage, as it should be.

It would be amazing to have a second camera for photo walks to get family and friends interested in photography hands on

I’m just getting started learning to shoot film! I just recently received my late grandfather’s Minolta XG-1 and it spiked an interest to try shooting film instead of digital. I’d love to try a Rebel! I love taking pictures of flowers and my dog so those would be my obvious first subjects.

I would love to win a Rebel I have been shooting film since i was a little kid then i shot digital and now i am doing both. I would love to win because it perfect for a road trip or day trip any trip camera . i love take pictures it makes me smile and create.

Thank you for this awesome post! I’d love to win one of these. I would like to have a more modern film camera to take photos of my town and the towns around me. I want to tell the story of this part of Oklahoma. Who we are, what we love and, my favorite part for photos, what we’ve left behind. I will be taking a lot of architectural photos of Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. Old buildings, new construction, graffiti, the things that tell the story of us. I’ve been shooting exclusively digital since smartphone cameras became a thing and often use my wife’s DSLR. I want to get back to the deliberateness of film. Thank you for the opportunity!

I was hoping to take a film class at the community college I go to learn how to use a proper film camera. But unfortunately due to online learning the class was cancelled. I have not had the chance to go beyond just working on composition with a cheap $1 point and shoot. I have been inspired by photographers such as Matt Day and your instagram page to learn more but it hasn’t been the right time. Hopefully if I win or whoever does gets the chance to learn and be able to have fun with film and capture moments.

Hello Darkroom Team, I would love to win one of the Rebels.

I’d love to have one of these cameras. I just recently got into photography and would love the opportunity to use one of these cameras just to get better! I don’t have anything like one of these and taking landscapes and portraits with it seem like it would be amazing!

I would use the camera to continue to LEARN!! Taught myself the basics on a Pentax K1000, recently obtained an old Spotmatic someone was giving away and nursed it back into working condition, and now I’d love to try something new and different! Film is such an exciting medium and I’m glad to be a part of it now.

I’d like to win this camera because i love analog photography and i would like more modern camera with auto focus to make photowalks and streetphotography, it would be amazing !

Hi! I’m in grad school getting my masters in Architecture :,) and I want to begin presenting my work through film. Especially, photographing my architectural models with film. I think film is the perfect medium to present and allow some ambiguity while also capturing the beauty of a space in only the way film can. OKAY I am very invested in this competition now!!

*contest entry*
I would love to win one of these Rebels because I grew up using point-and-shoot Canon cameras and I currently shoot with a digital Rebel. I just recently began shooting film regularly with my Pentax but I would love to experience the film line of Canon’s cameras, especially the Rebel. I have been shooting many personal, daily life shots as well as landscape and travel shots with Lomography color 400 and I would love to use a Rebel to continue this trend.

I want to join the giveaway because I can pass on this camera to mentor a younger newcomer film photographer. IMO, and as you guys have written many times, these AF 1990s-2000s cameras are some of the most underrated nowadays. Load it up with some nice film and shoot! If want to go manual, the option is there. Coat pocketable and ready for some ideas to shoot!

I would love to win a Rebel because I painfully had to sell some of my cameras this past month and winning one of these beauties would go a long way in helping me continue improving upon my artistic abilities.

I’ve been delving deeper into the world of film photography every day for about a year now and I love every facet of it, but I haven’t been able to get my hands on a reliable camera that’s either sturdy enough to not need replacement or cheap enough to be easily replaced. I love shooting 35mm and discovering all the possibilities of using a capable camera, regardless of price, and I’m working on creating more meaningful work that will really touch people and contribute to existing conversations (as well as start new conversations) about the people and places around us and the social/political/emotional connections between them. More specifically, I’m trying to build up a body of work that addresses young working class Americans & college students & their unique relationship to housing, time, and work. My most used focal length recently has also been 45mm, so 40mm sounds perfect for going a little wider but staying comfortable, with the option to go for other focal lengths cheaply. Thank you for the opportunity to enter this contest ! You guys are an amazing resource for amateur and professional photographers alike !

I just started talking a film class this semester f college and I have always been interested in film photography and developing my own prints. This past week I developed my own negatives for the very first time, and I have fallen completely in love with it! I have a collection of old film cameras that aren’t necessarily in the right shape to shoot anymore, but I know that I definitely want to continue my film photography journey! I think these Canon rebels could be a great starting point for me to start going out and shooting some beautiful nature shots.

I’d love to win one to easily experiment with multiple exposures. I primarily use my well loved Olympus XA but I’m down to try out one of these!

I recently picked up shooting film again and have been shooting with my old Nikon Fm10 from my college days. It’s been a great camera to relearn the basics on since it’s fully manual. I’d really love to upgrade to have some automatic features and having a Canon Rebel would be a great way to continue on my journey with film. These would go a long way when I’m experimenting shooting different styles like street photography or nature photography!

Hi!! 🙂 I’m currently working in a personal project about my town. Just starting off with film and I want to capture the places that I grew up going to that remind me that this town is my home. Driving around and reminding myself of what life used to be like and comparing it to what it is now is a crazy thing but l’ve been feeling very nostalgic with this little project. I feel like the canon rebel will give me a different perspective and give me an opportunity to capture the places I hold closest to my heart. Also thank you for being such a reliable company!!! I love you guys 🤍

*second entry because I didn’t put the URL in my first one*
I would love to shoot with one of these! I currently shoot mostly with my Canon A-1, which used to belong to my dad. I enjoy shooting street photography, but have always worried a little about carrying around a camera that has so much sentimental value to me. It would be nice to have a good camera that can easily/cheaply be replaced if someone else decides they want it more than me.

This camera looks right up my alley! I only have used manual cameras such as the older Minolta SRs, or the most basic point-and-shoots like the Sardina. I would love to have a quick go-to camera that is more capable of shooting in the moment, rather than needing to be carefully metered

I would love one of these to be able to document my fast growing 3 yr old. I only have manual focus film cameras and it can get quite tricky to capture a kid that doesn’t want to sit still. I love canon cameras!

I’m an absolute beginner in photography and just developed my first roll of film this year so a Rebel camera could really help me learn & improve in film photography. In all honesty, my first photos with one of these cameras would probably be overexposed pictures of flowers or blurry portraits of friends & family, but between all of the “bad” photos I hope to capture the magic in the little everyday moments.

This is an awesome giveaway! I’d like to document the process of moving into a new house with my family (including my toddler). I normally shoot an AE-1 but being able to use my EF lenses and have the autofocus to catch my kiddo running in the backyard would be excellent! (This is a duplicate I messed up the Instagram URL last time)

When i first started using a dslr i was so consumed by having the best and hated myself for not. I kept putting myself in this bubble thinking i couldnt take quality photos because i didnt have this or that equipment. I found myself one day taking photos and my friend was amazed at them. From that point on i stopped myself getting consumed by the latest equipment that when i found mt sister in laws old FT film camers wirh a single lense. I loved it even more. The F1 AE1 and others are so sought after but my favorite photos havw been with this old one off film camera. And honestly, i dont use my digital equipment as much anymore. Its been truly something wonderful.

Having the opportunity to shoot images in nature with the warmest colors are always a great pleasure when shooting on film. I’d love to expand my content with a Canon and help my eyes rely on themselves without a lightmeter.

I love shooting on a budget!! My current camera is a Pentax Spotamatic F that I thrifted from a Goodwill in mint condition for $7.99! All of my Polaroids (of which there are many) were thrifted and purchased at yard/garage sales throughout middle and high school. I remember when Polaroid finally stopped making film (or at least the drug stores stopped selling it) and they were considered worthless. Shooting on film, learning and expanding within the community of film photography as a kid who grew up in a digital age is so so so SO special to me. I look forward to trying more film cameras and keeping the tradition alive!!

From all the online information telling me about the specs of so much gear or those expensive lenses, I find that I just want something that does the job but is a bit more hands on than a point and shoot. The rebel looks just right and the photos that come from this camera are sick!

Winning this would be so cool. I’ve never won any contest in my life! I would take nature photos and portraits of friends and cats. I have an old film set up from my grandpa but there’s no meter or anything electronic. It would be nice to get a more modern setup with more common lenses.

Having stated will you be picking the 3 winners for the Rebel give-away at random it makes me feel that the quality of my reply truly isn’t as important as the task itself. I decided I would offer a response non-the-less.

I have been shooting film since approximately 1980, I have switched to digital around 2010. having switched to digital by no means meant I would give up film ( and I haven’t). I have been a long tome shooter of Nikon gear, I have used everything from an EL, F3, FA, to a simple EM. I have never shot Canon, but always felt I should give one a try. So, here at last is my opportunity to sample some Canon gear. I’m excited about this off! If I fail and do not win, I think I will surf eBay and purchase a Rebel and actually give a Canon a work-out.

Thanks for the opportunity, I wish everyone luck, happiness and kind thoughts in these wacky times we find ourselves.

Hello. Back in the pre-digital days, I had an older film Rebel and loved it. It was well used and well traveled. I’ve been revisiting film with some point and shoot cameras but I have been thinking of looking for something just like this.

I want to get back into photography since I abandoned the hobby a while ago. I like film photography so I think any of these cameras would be great for me. I’m still a beginner and I would like to learn more.

I would love to win any one of these cameras because I love film and nature. I want to capture all of the small moments during the pandemic so I can look back and not think that these coming months were just a blur.

I want one of the rebels because I’m just starting to shoot film. And they seem like a very good beginner camera to learn the basics and composing. I also want to try a 40mm lens. And cheap camera’s can make great results.

My desire for some sort of artistic outlet/expression has encouraged me to look into film photography in the past several weeks. I was on the verge of buying my first ever film camera (my first camera in general) until i spotted this giveaway!! The Canon Rebel would be so perfect for a beginner such as myself as it would allow me to get acquainted with film before slowly transitioning to a more mechanical methodology. Also, I just moved to a gorgeous Greek island for a new job and am in desperate need of a hobby that lets me capture the beauty of my surroundings. There are so many unique social interactions that I witness everyday which I long to preserve by physically manifesting them through a photograph!

I am artist and photographer. My work centers mainly around horses and equestrian events. During the lock down for the pandemic, I had to change the way I approached my art and photography. I learned to appreciate the beauty of my everyday surroundings. I would love to continue my work with a camera that is light weight and takes a quality photograph. I feel that these cameras would fit my need to carry with me everyday to continue to document the beauty and simplicity of everyday life.

I would love this camera! This would be perfect to take on my backcountry adventures. I’ve recently been using my a6000 and will sometimes bring my canon ae-1 but am often scared it’ll get too beat up. So, hopefully the stars align and end up being a lucky winner.

Just got a rebel g camera myself the other day, and already been looking to get a second to gift to my girlfriend as she’s enjoyed using mine. Only have one roll of film through mine in the few days I’ve had it, but with two cameras no need to switch off all the time allowing more personal creativity at any point. Might as well shoot my shot at a second one here to save some money for more film equipment down the road.

Hi darkroom lab! I am a high school photography teacher and artist who has come back to the art of film photography the last few years. I love showing my cameras and film process to my students. Due to Covid19 I have not been in my darkroom and miss it dearly. This change has lead me to your lab and into exploring color film. I just sent in about 8 rolls excited to see my results. Winning one of your Canon Rebels will allow me to share more possibilities in film with my students. I often like to do comparison shots and with a camera able to have multiple exposures it will be great to explore the double exposures in camera. In my artwork I work in themes dealing with the emotional impact of space and our environments. Sometimes spaces are created to keep our psyche in order and sometimes our environments a product of our expression. The interplay of inner and outer worlds fascinate me and I would love the opportunity to continue investigating these ideas. Why film? Because it is an obsession with trying to create a physical object of ethereal experiences and hold time itself. I love to keep the art of film alive through my practice. Thank you Darkroom Lab for existing and creating opportunities for artists to work and share in this amazing medium.

I am a college student and I love photography. I go on photo walks to help me destress over the weekends. I would love to win one of the rebel cameras to motivate me to keep on shooting and to expand my creativity with film.

I would love to have a camera like this because I would love a quality camera to use for experimenting. Expired film, slide film, infrared film… Pretty much everything I don’t keep in my always loaded K1000.

I recently developed four years worth of film for a film project I worked on for four years! xD I love everything about film photography, I’m not a professional but I take photos everywhere I go & ALL 3 of these are perfect for traveling & to take anywhere & everywhere? DOUBLE YESSS!! I’ve been using the Olympus Stylus Zoom lately & it would be an honor to own any of these! ( : Thank you for the opportunity, The Darkroom! <3

My first film camera was a Canon Rebel. I used it to take wonderful photos of my girlfriend (now wife), the places we visited, and snowy scenery in Mid-Michigan. I gifted that camera to a photographer-friend who wanted to start using film. I’ve got other film cameras but winning one of these cameras would bring an old friend back into the collection. I’d use it to capture all the little moments with our daughter and our new life in WNY. Thanks for the opportunity, Darkroom Lab!

I’d love to win one of these because I recently started my film journey and have loved being able to document my friends and memories with something so precious. I’ve been looking to upgrade my disposables to an actual camera for awhile now so this would be the perfect opportunity!

I am sort of new to film photography but I would love to try out one of these cameras! I always enjoy seeing your posts on IG with these cameras and would love the opportunity to try them out. I really want to take some portraits with this camera and a double exposure roll too 😀

Hoping to win one of these not for myself but my oldest niece wants to get into film and I think this is the perfect entry to it! Just enough control but also using it as a big point and shoot if she wishes.

All a camera does is expose film stock to light. There’s no magic or mystery, they all do the same thing, so price is not a factor, IMHO.
What really makes the difference is the glass, again, IMHO. I shoot with a Minolta x-700,and mostly Minolta glass. None of that is very expensive, and the results are fantastic.
I also shoot with a Konica AR-T and Konica glass. No meter, Sunny 16 or an old hand held light meter that came with the camera.
The biggest enjoyment for me is the feel of the vintage stuff, manipulating levers, turning knobs, etc.
Love it.
I shoot more digital because of the price of development, but I shoot film when I really want to get tactile, or as a special treat.

Okay. This is way after the giveaway but I have to say:
A 90’s era autofocus SLR camera is probably one of the best ways to get back into film, especially if you’ve been shooting mostly smartphone/point-and-shoot kind of cameras before. The camera is lighter, takes batteries that are vastly easier to find, has a more reliable light meter, and will probably have a film-speed override for non-DX coded films (which are a lot of the more interesting film stocks nowadays). I’ve been shooting with a Minolta Maxxum HTsi Plus from the late 90’s and it’s lovely.
Plus cost can be really quite reasonable, especially compared with older, more vintage cameras.

Spend money on lenses rather than intricate bodies–what a concept and soooooo true. My first autofocus Canon was the EOS 3 which I bought in 2005 (after 22 years of using my AE1P). It is a fantastic camera. But as I have gotten older I have started to turn to lighter weight cameras. I carry an Olympus XA everywhere. To make use of my EF lenses I bought a EOS Elan and later a EOS 10s. Both are significantly lighter with many of the EOS 3 and 1v features. The downside of the Elan for me is that I cannot shoot infrared film with it (same as the EOS 3), which led me to the 10s. I have balked on the Rebel line mostly because they don’t feel right in my hand. I am a 10 in glove size (not huge) which made them awkward to use for me.

I really enjoyed the video.

You explained it perfectly! I have a Nikon N65 and the picture quality is awesome, love seeing the looks on my friends faces when they see the pictures specially since the all spend so much money on new cameras and equipment and my old Nikon does the same quality pictures if not better. Thanks for the great video
